You can go from LA to Vegas easily on 250 range as there are tons of superchargers along the way. Same goes for Los Angeles to San Francisco. It's more about quelling range anxiety. I had to take my 3 into service before I had a trip to SF and they gave me a Model S 70D loaner which had about 233 miles of range and I stopped 3 times to charge (Wheeler Ridge, Kettleman City, Hollister). If I had my car I probably could've skipped Kettleman, but it was my first time at that Supercharger so I had to see it in person. It is my favorite Supercharging Station surpassing the one at Hawthorne design studio.

I didn't notice it while I was there, but this was last August so things may have changed.

Depends how much charge you want and the power rate of the charger. The new version 3 superchargers can get you over 200 miles of range in a half hour in optimal conditions.

Yes, but there are a few things. You never really charge past 80-90% unless you are at the start of a long drive. As you approach 85-90% it takes a lot longer to charge and it slows down tremendously. It starts off extremely fast when you are low, but then tapers off and you start to see somewhat of an average speed somewhere around less than half charge. This is how fast it can go at the start when you are low:



Usually at V3 Superchargers if I am low I start off around 1000 miles/hr charging rate but then settles around 450 miles/hr. As for trips, basically what happens is when you plug in your destination in the navigation, it will find superchargers on your route and tell you exactly how long to charge for before moving on. It tries to minimize the amount of time spent charging while at the same time minimizing your stops. For example, if I am on a trip it will tell me to stop at a specific supercharger with say 75 miles of range left, and then tell me to charge for only 10-15 minutes to get around 175 miles of range added. My average charge time on trips is usually 15 minutes which is more than enough to stretch for a good rest stop. It would probably annoy those who do trips without stopping though, but Tesla at least tries to place superchargers next to restaurants/gas stations so they aren't in the middle of no where with no facilities around.

Are you able to charge at home? If you are able to, there are a few options such as installing the Wall Charger that charges at around 44 miles/hr. Just plugin when you get home. If you have any other NEMA plugs in your garage you could use them to charge though it will be slower. My parents have a NEMA6-20 in their garage and I use it to charge when I visit and I get around 15 miles/hr. An overnight 12 hour charge gives me close to 200 miles of range.
