What about a minimum wage based on education levels?

Yep, it is not fun out here.
In addition to the marginally attached, who are included in U-5, involuntary part-time workers are included in U-6. The larger the difference between U-5 and U-6, the higher the incidence of this form of "underemployment."
try and not see the data for something it isn't, not that you are

I would strongly disagree with this estimate just on anecdote and personal experience, but yeah, my hockey team:

    Bac. Degree, Education: $13/hr banking
Bac. Degree, Math: on unemployment from previous job about $10-12/hr
Bac. Degree, Education: Subbing + painting side jobs, ~$300-400 a week either way.
Bac. Degree, Biology - Fisheries & Wildlife: unemployed
Bac. Degree, Biology - General: Retail, $8/hr
Bac. Degree, Education: Hot Topic Manager, $12ish/hr
Bac. Degree, Education: Unemployed (but in his case, due to going back to school fulltime)
Some college, dropped out before degree: Construction
Some college, dropped out before degree: Plays poker for 'a living'

Wow we're all doing so well with our degrees. I consider subbing and banking the only acceptable starting career spots for a bac. degree, and the banking is for me, a former-teacher-to-be, and the subber has bleak hopes for a fulltime permanent position as teacher because we're in a state with one of those super conservative Governors who just crushed the state education budget the past few years.

And all but 1 of us graduates graduated at LEAST 1 full year ago (May 2011), with the Biology: Fisheries and Wildlife major getting his degree in 4.0 years, 8 semesters, in May 2010, so we've all had ample time to look and still yet found anything. Some of the interviews I managed to get, I'd go there and there'd be a dozen 40-50 year old balding men there. I'd be wearing a suit too, but just my LOOK and my bare resume, I had no hopes of competing against the resumes and experience they had after being layed off from previous professional work they had held for years.

Quick response is "Sure, why not. Sounds good". But after thinking for a few minutes, I think the pay increase would have to be huge curve. I think that for most people, to get higher education levels, you need to take out more loans to pay for it. Would the minimum wage have to increase in order to cover the average cost of loan repayment? Because there are times I seriously regret going for a degree due to the cost of trying to pay back the loans on a minimum wage job. ($600/month for the loans is a huge chunk to pay if you also have to worry about covering food and shelter)

Already addressed your issues and I refuse to do it again. Read the post after the one you quoted if you want to know why you wasted your time writing all that.

But should personal loans taken out for education factor in to the minimum wage? The student debt crisis is something that needs to be dealt with in it's own matter without influencing those who didn't accumulate debt during their higher education (Trust me it's possible, but it fucking sucks.) even though it would beneficial to those who didn't accumulate debt.

I think whats more of a factor is cost of living in different states.

I'm moving currently from NJ, back to MI, our house (3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath bi level no garage/basement) rental payment was 2350 a month in North NJ, while in Michigan it's just about 1000 dollars (4 bedroom 3 1/2 baths bi-level with basement) movies on a Saturday night in NJ would cost you 12-18 dollars for a ticket, but in the theater in MI i went to it was 7.50.

10 dollars (just a random number) an hour minimum in MI would be spent much differently then in NJ.

the military already factors for things like that, it wouldn't be hard for the government to do the same for a different program.

Yar, I'm aware. The underemployment means more people seeking better work than they have, or getting second/third jobs, and I see it live when I manage to make it as far as an interview, there are SO MANY candidates.
Or, if they aren't seeking, it usually means they're struggling to get by on what they have.

Also, not quite to the main topic, but fuck how the prices of everything have de facto required a household to have two incomes to get by.

No, the women in the workforce issue isn't it. I don't really give a flying fuck who the breadwinner is.
A stay at home dad is as acceptable as a stay at home mom. Or if a career oriented lady wants a trophy husband, more power to her.
Or hell, if both want to work and use the money to have someone else raise the kids, fine, whatever.

My issue is when the market causes a situation where they are forced to have twin incomes to keep a household above water.

    .
A valid reason, I should have explained it a bit better

Feminism gave women the option to work in a chosen career instead of being a homemaker or partake in some “busy work”. As time progressed it is now expect for them to have their own careers (were all equal/you can do whatever a man can do). Add that to the fact that marriage is something that is still expect for many people to undertake in our world and many banks would take into count for dual income households since it’s almost expected nowadays and you can see products loans interest rates nearly everything basing it off dual incomes. And by no means is this the main cause behind dual incomes, it’s just one of a multitude of reasons why dual incomes are a necessity for our world.

Personally, I agree with you it’s fucking bullshit when/if my wife and I choose to have children we should have the option to be a stay at home parent and raise our child.

Perhaps it was my mistake. I was looking at the people who recently graduated with their degree as they would be the ones having the most trouble. Not to say it is worse than ever, but it's not great. Timing just screws some people. The economy exploded in a shitstorm right before I received my Bachelor's in 2008, and the company that had 'hired' me had a hiring freeze. Even with my engineering degree every company I talked to wanted people with experience. Took me a while to even get anything. What really sucked was not even being able to get under-employed because they said I'd leave as soon as I found a real job. On the upside I pay off the last of my student loans this year.

It also basically doubled the workforce without necessarily doubling the need for workers.

At first no, it just filled any gaps in the workforce.
But, in the period before people selling stuff caught on that more available cash means getting away with charging more,
the extra cash from women who worked was able to be spent on at the time luxuries, which boosted demand, which meant more production, etc.

Actually, putting it like that, a living wage probably isn't enough, you need more.
If you want a healthy economy, the masses need disposable income.

No, it's closer to a Social Capitalist country, thanks for pointing that out.

I would also love to know what education you have on the matter to be making the claims you do, because <.< I think you have a rose colored stain on your glasses and a blind eye to history when it comes to your ideas of capitalism.

    1st
Many people who come out of college with a degree are looking for a job within the local region instead of moving halfway across the country. That limits them. I had to move two states over to find full-time work as a nurse when there is a supposed “shortage”. Much like the days of the old west we can’t wait for the jobs to come to us we must go to them.

    And 2nd.
If there isn’t a job available, make one, which is much easier said than done. But, it creates jobs not only for just you but several others people if it’s an industry that is capable of supporting startups (sorry research neuroscientists.

In terms of finding meaningful employment. Since 08 the age of actual “retirement” as increased. This is leading to many people whom would have retired at an earlier age, holding on to jobs that are needed for the younger generation to find work. They have more experience than recent college grads so many technical fields will hold on to these folks until they choose to retire.
