Because the free market says janitors are generally not worth $20/hr. Because there's a million people lined up to do the job for less. You could take a economics 101 class if you want to learn the basics of how prices are determined.
Not necessarily? McDonalds employs 420,000 people. If we assume that 419,000 of them are making minimum wage, and the average employee works 10 hours per week (completely made up number, i'm sure it's actually much higher), then a $1/hr increase for all of them would cost $217,880,000 per year. Now, i don't know how much the cDonald's ceo makes, but i'm guessing it's not over $200m per year.no, pay attention and actually read. Percentages are going to scale based on how much the company is making. if the ceo is making a fuckton of money then they can afford to pay their workers well enough that they wouldn't need government help in the first place. the problem is they won't because they currently don't have to. if the ceo is making jack shit and can't afford to pay their workers well enough then the gov't should step in and give money assistance to the workers.
Yeah, giving up their private jets isn't going to help anyone. Splitting the cost of a jet up among a huge group of people is unlikely to make any significant difference for any of those individual people. They might all get a lunch out of it, if they're lucky, or if it's a small company.I am all for gov't assistance. I am against the gov't being forced to give assistance because the ceo refuses to give up one of their multiple jets to help their own workers.
While this isn't nearly as retarded (since the average will always be above minimum wage, unlike the lowest paid worker which almost always is), it's still pretty dumb.(or to some indexed national average)
