    Starting now? Dilemna..

Like so many other people I come from XI, was pumped about XIV, ended up very disappointed at release. There is no doubt I will play 2.0 though, figured ill wait on 2.0 and jump on a new, fresh server. Thing is, I'm kinda tired of waiting and since 1.23 is apparently much better than 1.0, I might aswell get started now.

Is it worth it though? How long before servers are taken down to prepare 2.0 alpha/betas? Are there enough people leveling to group with along the way? I feel like waiting for 2.0 and a new server would be the right move, but in the other hand it could be nice to get started now if servers will remain up for like 3 months more...

Not really sure what to do here. Also important to know that I have a lot of free time, which I guess is important when it comes to catching up..

As much as I'd like to say random question thread, I'll just say I don't think it's worth starting now. 2.0 is close and if you've waited this long you might as well wait a little longer. Unless you're curious to see the difference between 1.0 and 2.0, I'd avoid it for now.

I don't think we have a clear cut answer, though I keep hearing September/October tossed around. Fairly soon, regardless, can't imagine them being up say, in December so you've got like 3 months at best
Are there enough people leveling to group with along the way?
Probably not. Most people either have all their 50s or are like me and lazy/don't want them.

Unless you're really interested in the missable achievements and Dalamud plot, I'd say waiting for 2.0 is the right move

I mean-- could you get caught up in a month or two? Probably decently, and experience most of the 'story' but I don't think you'll necessarily have a good time finding people to help you along the way unless you've already got bros who've been playing for a bit and like you enough to backflag.

Not worth it imo, just wait for a new server as it will be a much better experience.

I'll allow it, a lot of people are going to be asking this question now more than ever.

Yoshida has already given a soft warning that the current version is only going to stay up for another month. Unless you have friends who can help you burn a job to 50, walk you through all the grand company quests and raids, you're most likely not going to get much done. I'd say wait till 2.0 since everything will be so much better.

Wait, if they are shutting down this version in 1month, thats september. And they are talking about a winter release for 2.0. How is this a smart strategy. People are just gonna play other mmos during the months downtime and might get stuck there instead.
Isnt this kinda a kick in the face to the faithful players who stuck around!

They need a month to transfer/convert data for 2.0 so it has to go down eventually. It probably wont go down til Oct and winter release is looking to be early 2013. By then a closed beta version should be avaliable and hopefully 1.0 players will get the first invites.

Yeah I guess i'll better wait at this point. SE timing for next steps is a bit vague though, there seems to be a consensus to say the game will be released early 2013, yet we hear about servers shutting down in a months or two. Thats quite some downtime...

There should easily be 3 months between alpha and release, even if their alpha will probably be more than just an alpha, but it seems a bit of a bad move to me to keep the servers down so long. So yeah, curious to see how they'll handle that

To be quite honest, I joined Aug 26 and it has been entirely worth it. I'm really loving 1.23a (with 1.23b tomorrow) and even though I'll only get to play for another two months, I'm really glad I re-joined.

As for enough people leveling to group all the way.. I'm entirely unsure because I've soloed mostly so far, and I'm 44 now. It's incredibly easy to do things on your own if you'd like to do it that way, but I do see the shouts for parties and such in Ul'dah still (at least on my server Ul'dah is the central hub of shouting.. not sure why, nor am I sure if it's like that everywhere) and I still get petitioned a lot for parties (probably because I'm a White Mage).

Anyway.. you can only register new accounts up until September 29th as per the latest Lodestone announcement, so if you wanna get in and give it a try, now's your chance. If you sign up now, you'll essentially get most of October for free, as billing is going to stop on September 30th.

    Cheers

If you have a group of friends to start playing with, or friends already playing that can help boost you through levels and quests I think it would be worth starting now. You could definietly get one or two jobs to 50 playing casually from now until November. It depends on what content you wanted to get done before 2.0. You might struggle to get Darklight equipment or Garuda weapons from now as a new player, but its not impossible.

I started back up on a new character a month ago. Personally, I think it'd be worth it to start now if you have friends to play with, as has been stated before. No reason not to get a jump start on things to come in the future. Learn the ropes and get caught up on missions/quests which can mostly be soloed or duoed at least.

But if you don't really have people to play with, I'd suggest waiting. There will be plenty of new players eager to play the game with 2.0. :3

I started about a week ago, been having a blast learning how to play this game as it is. Figured I'd start now to get some of my classes leveled up, so far I have my Gladiator to lvl18 and my conjurer to 15 :D

So the game is going down completely next month, as in nobody can play until 2.0 or nobody can purchase it til then? I was getting ready to try it out but there seems to be nowhere I can buy it and wondering if this is the case.

It's going down on Nov 11th to be exact. And yeah, S-E made them pull the game off shelves in preparation for ARR, but there are chances that someone still has a copy for sale or something ^^; If not then sorry, but you missed the chance to get the game for cheap.

They've sent out notices to stores (GameStop, at least) to destroy their old 1.0 copies, so you're unlikely to find a physical copy in brick and mortar stores. I've heard some people were able to buy it online about a month ago, but I just checked Amazon and don't see any reasonable prices.

If you do manage to find a copy, be sure to register before September 29, 2012 (Saturday) 11:59 p.m. (PDT).

Just checked ebay and amazon, looks like $50-$60 sadly but I'd rather pay that than wait however long until it's back up.

That price seems to be indicating it's ARR pre-order, not the current version.
