    Looking for good Old-School RPG's

Lately I have felt guilty of not playing alot of gamings "Gems", relating to older RPG's.

I have played through every FF title, but I have skipped titles such as "Chrono Trigger", or "Super Mario RPG". Both of which I am about to play through.

But I ask you BG, what are some NES/SNES/Sega/PS1-2/N64/etc great RPG's that you can list off that I should play through.

    After Secret of Mana, play

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...f_Evermore.jpg

It's very good in its own right.

Also, if you feel the urge, pick up Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3)

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ront_Cover.jpg

It has a huge amount of replayability and is sufficiently challenging (there are 6 chars to pick from and each char can go down many different "paths"; infact, it's a gem to look up what abilities classes got and then determine which way you go).

Lufia 2 on SNES some great hours spent cranking that one out.

Legend of Legaia (PS1) might be worth a look. I have fond memories of it, but it's been so long that I can barely recall the actual plot.

Xenogears (don't care if it has been said already, my favorite game ever >.> ), Phantasy Star 4, Bahamut Lagoon, Landstalker, Beyond Oasis, Zelda: Link to the Past, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story.....I think most of the others I would suggest have been suggested already. Too early to remember all of my favorites, I'll think about more at work.

Wild Arms 1-3, 4 and 5 are meh so I wouldn't bother with them unless you have to play every game in a series. 3 is my personal favorite.

    Lunar 1 & 2

Dark Cloud 2 if you like action RPGs.

    Xenogears

Xenosaga 1-3, 1 was a decent sci-fi RPG, but 2 was honestly pretty bad so you could skip it and read a plot synopsis. 3 fixed pretty much all my complaints with 1 and 2 and I absolutely loved it.

    Grandia 2

Skies of Arcadia - The Gamecube version is better than the Dreamcast version, but you can't really go wrong either way.

Dragon Quest VIII - Old School enough to still feel like Dragon Quest, new school enough that it doesn't feel stuck in the late 80s/early 90s.

    Star Ocean The Second Story

I wish I was at home and could look through my collection because I know I'm missing some good ones, but this is a good list just off the top of my head.

Why on earth would you skip CT? It's better than any FF.

    My suggestions are

    CT
Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, and Seiken Densetsu 3
    The Lufia series.
    Earthbound and Mother 3
The Lunar series. (1 and 2 preferably on sega CD)
    Phantasy Star IV
    Vagrant Story
    Chrono Cross
    Xenogears
    Suikoden 1 and 2.
    Megaman Legends 1 and 2.

Also lol at n64 RPGs. Enjoy your Quest 64.

I like this thread though. I will come back for suggestions when I decide to play something old school as well.

    While not the best:
    Grandia Extreme -Mixed bag
    Grandia 3 - Mixed bag
MS Saga: A new Dawn - Gundam RPG, very good but frustration level hard.
    Megman X Command Mission
    Mana Khemia 1 & 2
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love - wii or ps2 version
    Metal Saga

Some ps2 games that come to mind that most people didn't care too much for. Can't think of any SNES rpgs that haven't been mention yet except for "Treasure of the Rudras"

At the age that I finally became cognizant enough to truly play "RPG's" was right around when Final Fantasy 7 was released for PSX. I was 10 at the time. Now I'm finally trying to go back and play some of the older classics.

As of right now my order is:

    Chrono Trigger
    Secret of Mana
    Super Mario RPG

    Then Breath of fire possibly.

Thanks to all for posting, you guys have given me a list that will take weeks, if not months lol
