Need help finding a video recording program

I'm looking for an open source, desktop recording program. The requirements of the program that i'm is that it must use a codec that is compatible with wmp. It would also be nice if the program allowed you to record in a specified window instead of the whole screen so that the video sizes would be smaller.

I appreciate your help with this!

    Can vouch for cam studio.

I turn the files into flash (it comes with a converter) at work to make it work in India, as they seemed to have locked down/backwards PCs there.

I believe the basic codec is wmp compatible, it's nothing special.

A coworker of mine has tried this program already and the videos don't work with WMP.

Are you hard locked into WMP? No leeway at all?

Pretty much. We need something that is a default installed on workstations which is WMP.

Hypercam 2 (newer versions cost money, this one is free with no watermark or anything) works pretty well. You can choose whatever codec you like and most are WMP compatible. If you want to record games, I'd suggest buying/pirating FRAPS.

It has to be free since it would be used in the work place.

As far as transcoding... I could just use handbrake, right?

    Thanks for all the help.
