Using Mace/Shield whenever possible, when they try to run I swap to Scepter/Focus for immobilize (then I can use hammer command to knock them down). I'm sure there's a few things I can optimize and I'm not sure if gearing my runes for toughness/healing is the best way to do things since I haven't tried these weapons with any other builds, but this shit is definitely working right now.
Getting the e-mail authentication thing too now. Can't get the e-mail, can't log in. So.. they went from having a steady launch with a few issues, to having issues where people can't even play their fucking game. It's like they suspended us without saying 'you're suspended.' LOL. Damn. I feel bad for exploiting the whole 'having fun playing a game' thing
Worst company ever.
yeah, this one troubles me a bit. I can understand that fixing/adjusting in game systems like the AH takes a while due to their complexity. however, an email authentication system? that's beginner stuff with some supervising from seniors to check the scalability. I also can't understand why they rather keep it on and everyone out during saturday EU prime than disabling it, like it was before.
I'm from NA and I'm getting that email thing too. No work today and I want to play! D:
To be honest, this has probably been one of the worst MMO launches in recent history - which is a damn shame since the game itself is so good. I guess a relatively small company could only do so much to prepare for the massive influx of people.
nah. maybe for you. I was able to play since start until this and the 3hrs login downtime on last saturday pre-launch. AH doesn't bother me much personally. Aion launch with 4hrs+ queues was way worse for me. Or D3...
The original launch was great, save for a few issues. ArenaNet, though sadly, has driven it to the ground fairly quickly with these.. amateurish ways of dealing with things.
Also, I get people are like 'zomg they use Reddit, so cool'.. but reddit? Really? You don't release patch notes or anything at all, but you go to fucking Reddit? Bitch, please.
There's definitely been issues. No where near as bad as D3 though. Most of this game still works fine.
Ironically it's the small stuff that should be easy to fix that's messing up atm.
ahaha oh wow. Not even close. Can you guys not turn the email thing off? I haven't touched any of those settings and I've had no problems logging in or hackers.
As for the reddit thing: Cause the people that would be putting patch notes together and the people that would be posting on reddit are definitely the same people. >_> These are the people that would be posting on the official forums if they were up, and since they're not, they're using reddit, twitter and facebook more heavily.
As for the no patch notes, I imagine that since they are mostly bug fixes for things in-game, as they have specifically stated that they can work on the TP independent of the game, that they don't really feel the need to put up patch notes. I sure as hell don't feel they need to if they're just fixing bugs. When the patches are actually adding content, yes they should definitely post the patch notes. Especially since whenever I find something that's broken, it's fixed by the next patch (i.e. skill challenges stuck, npcs missing, etc.) They're fixing everything as it's cropping up, why do you need to know that information?
People are being incredibly retarded about their reactions to how ANet is handling these situations
Seriously. It's as though people have never actually been through another game launch before. A metric fuckton of hyperbole is being thrown around right now.
There are certain parts where ANet is definitely at blame and could be handling better (TP, Email Auth, etc). But some of the complaints I have heard are downright atrocious or borderline tinfoil hat material.
Having no problems playing the game halfway across the continent and in a different country. Haven't even picked up my actual copy yet due to me being at PAX.
Also in line for the Seattle launch party with about 200 people.
Meh, editing this out just because I was in a bad mood when all this shit went down and I perhaps overreacted. I'm still disappointed by how things have gone with the game that started out relatively smoothly early on. I just hope they fix some of the prevailing issues soon, like the Trading Post, the WvWvW issues, the Guild/Party issues/chat problems.. and so on.
Agree completely. I am personally pretty impressed with how they are handling things actually (with a couple exceptions as you mentioned).
Keep in mind they (as well as pretty much everyone else) did not expect any where near the volume of sales this game has got since WoW dropping the MoP patch same day was supposed to steal a lot of GW's thunder & it was generally assumed that the vast majority of people interested in the game pre-ordered or pre-purchased.
The launch was quite good in actuality. Think about it, what other online game has launched so well with such a large playerload? If you want to compare GW2's release with Rift's I can get along with that but only for a short time. Rift was not perfect, everyone just likes to remember it as if it was. Queue times turning into empty servers. Bugged Rift events were a large part of the game. Then add in their initial content launch event (which i consider part of the launch since the game was really a lackluster game until then) and you have a bad experience.
With GW2 we have had zero queue times to get on and play the game. The actual gameplay bugs were an extreme minimum. I myself have only found a single bugged event/skillpoint/heart. Where they have failed has been in the Trading Post (something that many games have not launched with), guild and overflow "join in" issues. Most of the latter two are fixed. (even if I built a guild bank but it still says I didn't).
I do not think that using Reddit or other "fan resources" is amateurish. Yes, we should have an official forums set up and running, but I see why they are holding back for a few weeks. The fact that Reddit has been a huge source of fanservice for them over the course of the development process for the game, it stood to reason they would continue using it.
While we are not getting patch notes, we are now getting "States of the Game" everyday on the official wiki. They moved to a medium they could control completely. The reason they used reddit in the first place is they had the ability to post there and not effect the status of their own servers. The two wiki SotG posts have immediately shut down the GW2 wiki servers when posted.
In the end... get a grip, the game is awesome. It has its flaws, but what game is perfect? We can only hope that within the next 2-3 weeks we see a stabilization of servers, the trading post and news on new things in the future.
There will be official forums. They aren't bringing them up yet because their network is already under enough stress as it is. The game is getting absolutely slammed. More so than they ever expected. It's 100% understandable they're having so many issues with the trading post. It's like the world's friendliest ddos the second the TP goes up. Minor bugs are still around because they're dumping all their resources into network tweaks and upgrades. Once the TP is settled I imagine we will start seeing the small things fixed very fast.
Worlds friendliest ddos attack, haha I like that. So true.
I think your forgetting about the fact that every server is interconnecting in this game. No other mmo has done that so its bound to have some issues that they couldn't prepare for. It's much easier to handle stuff when each server its its own separate world isolated from every other server. But when the entire game is one giant world and every server rlies on ever other and everything is cross server... then yea. there are issues that will bound up
That's not entirely true. Took my friends about 3 hours to get out of their respective tutorials because after they killed the boss it would reset the tutorial zone all over again because the real zone and all it's overflows were full. I was pretty lucky and got out fine, but it was a problem for a lot of people.
Neither of them were mad about it though since we've all played games at launch before, just pointing out there were in fact queues.
