I'm not saying that they don't need to fix their shit but honestly when I see the whole "they're losing so many people" etc. line I can't help but wonder how many of those people are going to come back and give the game another try every content update. The beauty of the game is that you can take a break and come back when they fix their shit, or just take a break until the next content update.

I know that if I was annoyed with the game enough to quit, I'd come back every major content update out of curiosity. None of the games issues should have given people such a sour taste in their mouth that they'll never try it again.

Of course people would come back. I'm just saying I'd like for them to you know.. fix things after an update, not break even more shit, you know? That's not too much to ask for, correct?

Yeah, the whole "ZOMG SO MANY PEEPS GON QUIT" line is old and tired, but it's a matter of them actually fixing their shit when they introduce new patches, not breaking for times as much stuff.

While Anet's reputation can get damaged, thankfully for them, not having a subscription model means that the "I'm gonna quit" threats matter less.

    I don't agree.

The game's population is a big part of what keeps an MMO going. If you lose enough of your playerbase you don't have the momentum to draw in enough new customers and it just sort of snowballs from there. A dwindling playerbase might not be a direct and immediate kick in the pocketbook for ANet, but it's not something to be brushed aside so casually either.

We're riding high now, but if there's a large exodus and suddenly zones are barren and you find yourself often playing alone, that's going to be a huge turn off. Half the fun of dynamic events is having a horde of people just spontaneously showing up to help out. You can't do that if your population thins out too much.

People quitting still matters, just not in the same way.

People are going to quit any game not called WoW anyway, so it is what it is. Yes, Anet needs to fix their shit, but this is the absolute last game I'd be terrified of having an exodus from, if I was a dev.

I still feel like they're running on a skeleton crew post-launch because they had so many people working god-knows-how-many-hours leading up to the launch. I feel like once they get everyone's ass back to work on a regular clip, things will improve. I don't want to make excuses for them, because frankly, maybe 3% of what everyone's bitching about actually applies to myself and how I play the game, but you never want to see a playerbase suffering unless its their own damned fault, like people complaining about restrictive dungeon systems after abusing the piss out of farmable bosses for tokens or bitching about karma goodies being non-salvagable after people abused the shit out of them.

People are leaving in droves because of WoW. We ALL knew that GW2 would get hit just as hard as any game by a WoW expansion release. Some of those people will come back, others will play WoW for an extended period of time and then return to GW2 when there is major content released, like an expansion of its own. I really would not worry about GW2 numbers a month in. A lot of players are checking out WoW this week. What makes this different is that a lot of players are actually playing both. A lot of people I know are busy leveling and gearing up in WoW but get on GW2 to complete their daily or do a kharma zerg til they hit DR and go back to WoW for a bit. They want to play GW2 but they are linked to raiding guilds in WoW and that is the only thing they will be doing in WoW once they hit cap.

As I write this there are 8 Full GW2 servers, 2 Medium pop servers and the rest high amongst the American servers. That is EXTREMELY good for any MMO while competing with the elephant. Did they do what every other MMO does at launch and create too many servers? Probably, but that will even out in the long run. Do not be afraid, there is a reason why GW1 was decently populated and profitable for years.

TLDR: There is problems but they are a heck of a lot less than all those morons on other forums are shouting at.

Everyone knew that MoP release was being purposely timed at just after GW2 was released, they figured that with launch issues they'll come flooding back to play WoW. casuals will always hop between sub based MMOs, there's nothing preventing them doing that with GW2. people will stop playing WoW again after they clear Normal/Hardmode and fully geared and have to wait 5months for the next raid patch, its how it goes in high end raiding guilds.

MOP sold 600k copies the first week, CAT sold 3.3m copies the first week. WOW is a dead, dying game for casuals/raiders now.

Don't play WoW at all, but also enjoying a bit of a break from this after 100% my main. There's basically the problem I anticipated of "Then what...?" once I got to 80 and finished the story. Just not a PvPer and even basic farming doesn't feel productive enough to leave me comfortable in the thought of making multiple gear sets, getting 20 slot bags, or whatever. Then just general bugginess. I generally liked the people I hooked up with, surprisingly some old FFXI players on the server I was on, but there's just a bit of polish I'd like to see for the sake of persistence.

Diablo III's 1.05 is on the horizon, and on paper, it looks like a hell of a lot of what the game needed. I'll be playing that for a bit, no doubt, and maybe in the future I'll poke back and take another alt to 80. Maybe not 100%, especially the WvW requirements, but things won't be so fresh in my mind, so it'll sorta feel new again.

Why do people keep saying this? They didn't count digital sales, only physical, so yeah, those numbers are terribly inaccurate. You sound like a hardcore XI fan when you spout bullshit like this.

I'd be surprised if MOP hit Blizzard's sales projections. So in that way, yeah it was no doubt a failure.

But really, any game Blizz makes is going to make money in the end. Their franchises are just way too popular.

There has definitely been a large loss of players, I'm skipping quite a lot of DEs due to lack of players. Why do people keep thinking the population indicators are showing players online now? Haven't we all played enough of these kinds of games to know it's characters created on the server and as such no indication of population? I know it fluctuates a tiny amount but that's because there are free world transfers and being on certain servers at certain times has advantages in cross server pvp events.
If the game switched to paid transfers they would never fluctuate at all. The only game I can think of that shows active players is Eve online and that can't be messed around with because it shows real numbers.

I can't fathom why people keep perpetuating this "the servers are showing full/high, everything is fine" idea, they are just showing how many characters were created and held on the database, not how many people are on right now.

If it was active players you would see wild fluctuations. You see very little, no matter what the time you never see "low" for instance.

I only have to skip DEs at early morning time, there isn't really any solid proof that what you're saying is true.

The game moves fast so the lower zones are going to feel dead because people aren't rolling many alts. This happens in every MMO ever. I've personally stopped playing for now, but I will most certainly be back once patch notes start looking better.
