There have been a ton of sales for GW2 before and since release. But since its a Buy to Play game, I would not expect a flat out price drop anytime before an expansion release.

Yeah I'd be surprised too. The disk is the only thing they make money on.
And the gem shop.
They probably make more on people buyin holiday RNG garbage than they do on anything else tbh ._.
Their sales figures are posted. They made more money so far than XI could dream of, it's ridiculous.
Kuya, Green Man Gaming almost always has a code that sells the game for 35$.
Doubtful, but did they say how much they made off the Black Lion Trading Company alone? I'm pretty sure they made a ton off it, though still curious.
+/-$180,000,000 in copies of the game sold, that isn't including deluxe or sale numbers nor the loss of giving third party distributors money since he only says "over three million copies sold". BLTC has probably raked in a fair chunk of change as well but it isn't mentioned.
I'd be interested to see some data on how much gems are bought with gold vs. rl money. Cause I mean, I've spent about 200 gold on gems since game came out and that could have been like at least $100 for them. I've also bought gems with cash too though.
I will never buy gems for RL money in this game. Gem prices are waaay overpriced when you're buying with IRL money(and apparently now overpriced with gold too). If they would fix their retarded gem prices I bet more people would buy gems, but w/e.
I bought gems when they were like 30s per 100 or something a few weeks after launch. Now it's just dumb at like 1.85g per 100.
Am I the only one who finds John Smith's condescending posts hilarious? I look forward more to anything with his name on the dev tracker than actual devs talking about the game these days.
Probably
As far as finances are concerned, it doesnt matter how many are being purchased for gold vs money. They ALL have to be purchased for money at some point. What you are asking is how many players are purchasing gems to convert to gold vs who are buying gems to actually use them in the store.
I bought however many gems $29.99 was at launch for bag/bank slots. Most people I know did something similar, knowing there was no subscription and that the game was awesome enough to last the long haul.
After reading "dead game" and "lol hype" on pretty much every GW2 related news on game magazine sites, this makes me really happy for ANet: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/foru...easing/1357788
There was also recent interview where they mentiond it too, but I can't find it atm. You could now speculate if it would be the same thing if you had to pay a monthly subscriptions. I doubt they'd make more money overall tho, as the (possible) higher population now happily spends their money on the gem shop. Think I spend around 50$ so far, mostly for inv/bank and karma boost every now and then.We created more capacity a little while ago guesting went up live to allow more chances for people to move around their home worlds if they wished to do so. In game population wise, you’ll be excited to know login numbers and peak concurrency numbers have been slowly going up or staying consistent depending on the day going on 6 weeks in a row now. We’re very excited to see that =)
the game has been very successful and has held onto its players pretty well (unlike most games that have a huge initial influx and they don't last long). It's always the people who are dissatisfied who are the most vocal and they are always the ones to scream "dead game."
w/ them turning off free xfers it of course caused ppl to move around and there are now a lot more "high" pop NA servers then there was a week ago. That has nothing to do w/ less people playing but more about people moving to higher pop WvW/PvE servers since they chance to do so for free was coming to an end
stop trolling
I'm gonna keep my eye on greenman gaming for the time being, thanks church. But if any of you guys see a deal on the game, let me know. I want to hold out for a while longer before i decide to splurge.
The change to fractal has backfired horribly. Between having to straight up gear check people to make sure they're not entering lv40 with 10 AR and idiots bringing their lv20 guild members to lv60, I swear to god I would rather wait 4 hours for a party than deal with this.
Also, the ultimate litmus test to determine whether or not someone should be stuck with a pitchfork and thrown into the gas chamber is to see if they spell "oops" as "opps". When my regime attains power they will be the first against the wall.
also, elementalist does no damage and i wish they would go away
I've got 30 AR but I also know it's useless at 40+. What seems to matter is class and competency and both are lacking at the high 30s. I've pretty much given up doing fractals now because of the lack of people and competency to do them for reasonable fractal weapon shots; far too much time/effort for any reward you might get. I'm also not sure another 5 agony will help, with the amulets, but I am curious to see if it will matter.
