Oh man, these things are classics. Who could forget such timeless and accurate advice from a guide? We all know WAR/BLM was totally viable, and a completely functional alternative to DRK/WAR.

I remember a buddy of mine talking me into playing FFXI for the first time using the Brady guide. We were in Afghanistan and he brought that fucking guide with him so we could plan out which classes we would level first and what we were going to do in the game. We got back and started playing immediately...I kept playing for 5 years and he lasted 3 weeks. lol

Sadly this was usually the case. Had tons of ex-EQ players playing with me. All but like 4 made it less than a week and got stuck in the dunes at launch.

I will say tho in my early FFXI days those nation quests and maps were quite helpful as well as being able to look at gear when not in game at the AH. Awww, those were the days. First thing I thought about when getting up in the morning was checking my plants/DB/AH and the anticipation to do it all over again the next day... yeah... fuck this game.
