And, as mentioned, it may not be as strong if they're moving to 16... but not a one is going to break that agreement because whoever does can look forward to their state's "second" school then being granted entry at will.

I.E. "ok Florida you want to let Clemson in? Enjoy recruiting against an SEC FSU." or "Oh, Georgia thinks Louisville should get in? OK, we'll have them and GaTech."

Mizzou was a good addition. I know you're bitter about A&M and Mizzou leaving your conference, but they were great additions to the SEC in terms of broadening the footprint into midwest recruiting. When that all came out a couple years ago about UK, SC, UF, and GA having the agreement to block other people from joining, shit was very different. The SEC requires a 75% majority approval to extend an invitation, which means all 4 of those schools would have to stand fast against a new member to keep them out. I just don't see that happening. The increase in revenue is just too appealing. Not to mention if two more are added, that means that no more will likely be added, so two of those schools won't have any motivation to block since they know they'll be ok. They would just be hurting themselves in revenue and helping the other two schools recruit.

A&M sure. Mizzou has nothing to offer the SEC aside from location.

Syracuse, for example, has much more of an audience. It also offers more revenue, nobody wants to watch Mizzou play outside KC/StL, Syracuse gets a tv audience and more than enough basketball revenue to make up for the slightly less football than Clemson. They literally get 2-5x the attendance. And they're capable of supporting even more, which they'd surely sell out playing Kentucky and Florida these days, and Mizzou when they're good.

Clemson, Florida State, GaTech, all rarely offer anything other than football, and FSU is the only one offering consistent revenue on an SEC level even when you consider Louisville.

Mizzou was all about location, that's a given.

I agree that FSU is the only school that's really pulling in the dough like an SEC school. They also have the tradition that people in the SEC will respect and be proud to have. I think Clemson makes sense for that same reason. You know you get goosebumps when they run down that hill to 83k fans screaming. That's one of the best environments to watch a college football game in the nation. I went to a couple games there when I lived in South Carolina and was blown away. Maybe I have rose colored glasses because of that, but I think they'd make a great SEC school.

All this being said, who the fuck knows what will happen. Shit has been nuts over the past few years and I have been shocked more than once and am sureI will be again. Watch the SEC end up adding something crazy like Boise and Navy just to mess with us all.

Yeah, I mean I'm not entirely ruling it out, just think it's highly unlikely. I'm just surprised to hear you guys think of Syracuse as "no way never happen." Not saying it's going to happen either, but I don't think it's entirely unlikely by any means.

I really don't see the SEC expanding that far out of its "base". All of our schools are in contiguous states and I don't think that will change. The members of the SEC and the fans of the SEC are very proud to be "southern" schools. The "southeastern" part may be a stretch now given Texas A&M, Mizzou, and Arkansas...but I just don't see them going above the Mason Dixon line.

By the way, if you haven't noticed... Nebraska got fucked, lol.

Thanks to Rutgers and Maryland both joining east, and Illinois coming west, they now get new games against those guys, and yearly vs Illinois... in exchange for less games vs Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Penn St. lol.

The Big 10* is such an odd conference now. I hope they change the name (because it reallllllly bothers my OCD) and change the divisions. It seems a wee bit unbalanced as is.

I thought it was commonly believed that the SEC wanted it's foothold in new states, which is why they wouldn't look to FSU or Clemson over a NC and/or VA team. My memory might be bad, but I thought I'd read an article awhile back where someone in the SEC stated as such.

Everyone here seems to think if they look to expand, they'll look for Virginia Tech (because who the hell wants Virginia State anyway?) and possibly NC State, since you're not getting UNC without Duke and vice versa.

Meanwhile down in Miami, as part of the NCAA investigation into the Nevin Shapiro scandal, the NCAA investigative committee is sending out letters to former players basically saying talk to us or we will assume you are guilty. Lulz.

I think Slive thinks he can take just about any team and just by virtue of them being in the SEC they'll become an "SEC type" school eventually. Va Tech and NC State were rumors back before Mizzou and TA&M came, which is when the comments you're talking about were made. The only thing I've heard since those two joined has been "we are not looking to expand" and "we are very happy with 14".
