5. QB Taylor Martinez, Nebraska, Jr.

Last week: 26-of-34 passing for 354 yards and five touchdowns; six rushes for 10 yards in a 49-20 win over Southern Miss.

Watchman's take: Are we finally seeing T-Magic in full? It sounded ridiculous when Martinez said his completion rate goal for this season was "70 percent or above" -- Martinez had a 56.3 percentage last season and 59.2 as a freshman -- but maybe it wasn't so crazy. He was simply brilliant in the opener, hitting on 76.5 percent of his throws in totaling 364 yards of offense. He also matched his career-high with five touchdown strikes. Making it even more impressive, the outburst came largely without the aid of running back Rex Burkhead, who exited after the first three series with a knee sprain. Martinez has made appearances on this list over the last two years, but may finally be a factor for the long haul.

As to the Logan to Cam comparisons... I dunno, people taking it too literally. Cam was obviously way better, but VaTech has a history of cam-ish guys (good on their feet, monster arms) going back to at least the mid 90's.

During the Alabama-Michigan game on Saturday, analyst Brent Musburger said something so horrible and so outrageous that it not only caused fellow analyst Kirk Herbstreit to lose his composure, but it also caused ABC to mute Musburger's audio for a few seconds.

So what was this horrible thing Musberger said?

He said the word "piss."

Here was the sentence: "Did I miss something, or did you not piss an SEC team to play for a national championship?"

What Musburger meant to say was "pick" and it came out "piss" and the censoring world of ABC — and Herbie — got all sorts of panicky and flustered.

Musburger called it "a Freudian slip" and we can all commence rolling our eyes at the overreaction. Did that really need to be censored? I've heard worse from the little boys riding their bikes by my house.

Muting the mic made things 100 times worse because everyone watching thought Musburger said something that might ultimately result in a nationwide apology. Something like, "$#!^" or "#@(&" or "@%#^ #^$&( @^#&#*$(#)@)@&$^@."

Now that would have been worth censoring!

but since this time he hit 70% passing instead of the 50% he usually puts up even against trash, he's a heisman finalist that's going to perform that way the entire season even against legit defenses on the road

The Big 12 is 42-5 against every other conference since the beginning of last season. Two of those losses were by Texas A&M and Missouri.

TCU has the nation's longest win streak, at eight games. Baylor is second, at seven games. West Virginia is tied at third, with a six-game winning streak.

Last year, Kansas State called an average of 17.6 designed runs for Collin Klein. Last week, the Wildcats ran just five designed run plays for Klein.

It means if another conference asks a big 12 team to join them, they do so knowing all tv rights and money continue to go to the big 12.

I.E. nobody's leaving and Texas is cash for 13 years guaranteed.

Here's how I see it: Texas and, to a lesser extent, Oklahoma are the guys who work during the day, go out at night, come home drunk and beat their wives before banging them, if they didn't already bang a hooker or someone else on the side that night. The rest of the Big 12 are the battered wives who are forced to be happy taking care of the six kids because they have no other choice financially; they're just happy to have a roof over their heads and food on the table for the family. If they had a way out like their friends Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and Texas A&M, they would have taken it.

That's why the Big 12 still exists.

I'm confused... this sounds like the Big 12 is trying to protect itself from more teams leaving. Given Texas has the Longhorn Network, so they're guaranteed all that money, how is this new deal on them? If anything, it sounds like it'd be by the other schools trying to ensure the conference stays afloat and they're not left with no backups.
