The NFL Referees Association and the league have broken off talks after a third day of meetings Saturday failed to reach a resolution on a new labor deal.

"We are disappointed because it means that our members will not be back on the field for Week 1 of the regular season due to the NFL's continuing lockout," Mike Arnold, the lead negotiator for the referees, said in a statement. "We remain willing to negotiate with the NFL in order to reach a fair agreement.

"However, no additional meetings are scheduled at this time."

They make approx. 3-5k a game from a billion dollar corporation. Despite having 15-30 years of service, there are UFA, practice squad players and rookie 7th rounders that triple that while buried so far on the depth chart they dont even have a jersey or pads. Crews dont work every week either.

AFC EAST - New England Patriots - As long as they have Brady its theirs to lose.
AFC NORTH - Baltimore Ravens - Its them or the Steelers and i think they are the better team by 2 wins or so
AFC SOUTH - Houston Texans - Might be the biggest gap between 1 and 2 in the AFC. People seem to over state the loss of Williams and Ryans. Williams only played 1/3rd the season and Ryans only played about 1/3rd the downs.
AFC WEST - Denver Broncos? - The best of the bad. Manning will make them good enough. Chargers are too skizo to win the div.
AFC WILDCARDS - Pittsburg Steelers and Buffalo Bills - Despite not winning the NORTH the Steelers are still the Steelers. Bills will be better on D lead by the above mentioned Williams. A little more consistancy will get them to the post season.

NFC EAST - Dallas Cowboys - Ok so I am a homer but the Giants were just one regular season win better last year. A better secondary will help the Cowboys not give up so many games in the 4th.
NFC NORTH - Da' Bears - yes.... They are a more balanced team this year then Greenbay who i expect to make a slide this year.
NFC SOUTH - New Orleans Sinners - Even wtihout their coach they are still the best team in the NFC South.
NFC WEST - San Francisco 49's - I have no clue of Alex Smith can repeat his 2011....but the team has seen an oppertunity to win and is trying to build winner. The other teams in the NFC West are also horrible. Biggers 1/2 gap in the whole NFL
NFC WILDCARDS - New Jersey Giants and the Green Bay Packers - I think the Panters will be left just outside a wildcard birth. The Giants and Packers are too good to leave out.

SUPERBOWL - Bears over Texans

I think the sack record will be broken..by both Ware and Pierre-Paul

Out of all the teams that matter less... the NFC South, logjammed at like 7-9 / 8-8 and there for Carolina to take, will be worse than the NFC West (Arizona winning). The NFC East will have every team 3-3 in the division; the media will enjoy all the hypotheticals from Week 15 onward, but ultimately the winner is done in the wild card round.

Now the boring conference. Oh yeah, still the one of the same 3 teams (2 mostly w/o IndyPeyton) in the SB. Patriots roll til getting Rodgered; Ravens top Steelers in meeting #3 on the year; Houston finds contentment in having its division title locked up and shits the bed 2POINTS-style; Peyton is like awwyeah (mostly) playing in the AFC West then gets destroyed by Tamba Hali Week 12 @ Arrowhead and retires. The Jets fail to even be very entertaining in their ineptitude.

Running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who held out from training camp in the hopes of getting a new contract, will report to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Jaguars did not give him a new contract, according to a source. It's possible they could waive the $1.2 million in fines he accrued during his absence, though that is unclear.

His holdout reached its 38th day Saturday, tying former receiver Jimmy Smith (2002) for the longest holdout in Jagaurs history.

The star running back wants a new deal after leading the league with 1,606 yards rushing last season. He has two years remaining on a five-year, front-loaded contract worth $31 million. He is scheduled to make $4.45 million this season and $4.95 million in 2013.

A rookie free agent will be charged with protecting Philip Rivers' blindside in the San Diego Chargers' Week 1 opener next Monday night against the Oakland Raiders.

Michael Harris will start at left tackle on Sept. 10 as Jared Gaither still is not ready to return from back spasms he first started to experience July 28.

Harris worked with the starters the entire preseason as Gaither hasn't practiced since his back spasms developed. The Chargers aren't sure when he'll be able to return.

"I don't know if there's been a setback," Chargers coach Norv Turner said Saturday, according to U-T San Diego. "He hasn't made any progress. That's for sure."

Gaither, who helped solidify the Chargers' line last season during the last five games after he was waived by Kansas City, signed a four-year contract with San Diego in the opening days of free agency.

The Panthers have announced they've made a move at defensive tackle, signing free agent Dwan Edwards and waiving last year's third-round draft pick Terrell McClain.

Terms of Edwards' deal were not immediately available.

Edwards played the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills after spending six years with the Baltimore Ravens. The 6-foot-3, 301-pound Edwards has played in 85 games with 45 starts during his NFL career.

Sunday's announcement to waive McClain comes as a surprise.

He started 12 games last season as rookie after being selected 65th overall by the Panthers. He's the latest third-round draft pick to fail with the Panthers, joining former defensive tackles Corvey Irvin and Atiyyah Ellison and running back Eric Shelton as busts.
