Hard Mode details, other tidbitshttp://gematsu.com/2013/09/lightning...er-level-dropsAfter you first complete Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, you’ll unlock the “Hard” difficulty, game design director Yuji Abe and battle design director Nobuyuki Matsuoka revealed in a Famitsu interview.
Hard difficulty monsters will be stronger and drop higher-level abilities. There will be items that are only sold in Hard mode.
Additionally, the number of each monster type living in the world of Lightning Returns is predetermined. When you defeat the last of their kind (properly known as the “Last One”), the monster will become extinct. Each Last One will be remarkably stronger than their counterparts, and depending on the monster, their behavior may differ as well. If you defeat a Last One, you might acquire rare items.
Depending on your play style, Lightning Returns will last 20 to 30 hours, according to Matsuoka. But if you trigger nearly all the continent’s events and don’t skip scenes, it should run about 50 hours, Abe added.

I love this idea. Kinda' neat way to go about adding optional bosses.Additionally, the number of each monster type living in the world of Lightning Returns is predetermined. inc reloading save files 30 times in a row because a Last One that drops the single item you need for something wont drop it.If you defeat a Last One, you might acquire rare items.
I wish you didn't have to replay the game to do Hard mode. My backlog is too big to be playing games twice lately.
Yeah. I'm getting tired of games putting the enjoyable modes behind the piss easy ones. A bit silly to force people who want to play a hard game into speed running an easy one first.
That said, the last of them being (essentially) a boss monster is a pretty cool idea. To me, that also says the game won't have (the ability for) a traditional RPG grind, something that I've never enjoyed. Each kill is a step towards and achievable goal (killing everything).

Damn that costume makes a pussy out of everyone
I don't think I understand the point of this game anymore.
I swear if it wasn't Square Enix, I'd think that was satire.
They finally realized that throwbacks, crossovers, and nostalgia = MONEY.
Honestly, it took them long enough.
It is basically what FFXIV AR is constructed upon.
