Yeah like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, once you find monsters that give a big chunk of EP, you might wanna mark your map so you know where to find them.
Finished the second day and with it the Luxerion main missions (chapter 1-5). Also unlocked and got the white chocobo to the point where he can glide while jumping. He makes a fucking HUGE difference when fighting in the wildlands. Can just focus on attacks while he keeps your HP relatively filled, buffs you, and hits the enemies with their specific weaknesses.
The gameplay is definitely growing on me. Finally started learning the benefits of good guard timing (especially against the mission 1-5 boss), and am starting to get some more spells and abilities and garments here and there. Game is definitely growing on me quite a bit and yeah, I spam the hell out of Chronostasis too lol
I'm still on Day 2, but I have to say that for me this has been the hardest FF title to get into since X-2. XIII was enjoyable once you got past the tutorial (which was half the game), XIII-2 I found to be a lot of fun and left me wanting more.
Even with the ability to "cheat" and use Chronostasis 24/7 by farming bigger mobs, pretty much everything in the game feels off. From the vendors everywhere and most npc's still acting somewhat normally, even with the world ending in days, to the fact that there's no cure abilities and having to use a finite amount of potions. I feel like I don't understand how stagger works still while it was pretty easy to understand in the previous games, and then there's all the customizations you can do. Which would be nice taking the time to learn... time... yeah...
So is anyone else actually enjoying this game? My Facebook feed is filled with people who hate it. The reviews say it is garbage...
I'm not super far into the game yet cause I've had a lot on my plate this week but so far, I really enjoy this game.
It reminds me a lot of Shenmue (which I loved) and the combat is very refreshing. Don't know why everyone's knocking on this game so hard... the only problems I have at the moment are that quest NPCs aren't automatically marked, textures are horrible in some areas, and random NPCs get in the way of cutscenes from time to time.
Otherwise, it's awesome.
Personally I'm not going to get it, but that's mostly from hold-over anger and annoyance from the original XIII. I don't like giving companies money after they burn me, and it takes awhile for me to "forgive" in these scenarios. Putting that aside, I wouldn't buy it simply because I don't enjoy "rush" games, where they force you to continuously progress at -their- pace, whether that be for actual gameplay design or to give the illusion of some other "thrilling" mechanic. There's also the fact that the only character in the series I'm interested in, Sazh, is reduced to a non-role, so I have no real reason to play on a personal level. The rest of the cast seems emotionally devoid or incapable of progressing in any meaningful way, Lighning, whether by design or not, is an emotional brick that I can't relate to (stoicism can only take a real person so far), and I enjoy games with actual parties, or, at the very least, a solo character capable of recruiting party members. I don't play FF titles to use a single character.
The game sounds like fun from what people are saying, so that's very good. Its just not for me, but then again, I'm picky as shit, and only really buy about 2 new games a year, and am perfectly fine skipping the rest.
Gameplay is super fun, but the story and characters are a wash and really lowering review scores. However, if you're one of the people who like playing games and not just watching them I can't see you going too wrong.
It's like SO4. I certainly didn't play that for the story. So yeah, we get it. Story and character shit, game good, people still mad. If you can't get beyond that then put this shit outta your mind and move on.
And for a real question, is there any bonus to having cleared XIII-2 data? Or is just a save file enough (provided there even is something)?
Goddess Lightning gear.
Any save data works. All bonuses (demo+saves from the other 2 games) are unlocked once you get to the Ark and unlock the menu shop.
Also stagger works differently depending on the enemy. Some get staggered if you time your guard right, others by triggering their weakness multiple times, others have multiple stagger phases. This game is all about trial and error like the Souls series. You even get punished if you mess up and die (except for easy mode).
Yeah I've found in more than one instance when I fight a new major mob I end up having to restart and spec my 3 schematas to handle that unit specifically.

Just got the collector's edition strategy guide. Hnnng. Makes me wanna restart using its planned schedule.
Anyways Xbox Art of War code: 6QRJF-MM9QX-92FGT-R7Q23-9T?HZ
I added the question mark so everyone could have a fair stab at it and so it doesn't get crawled. It's a number 0-9.
I might follow the strategy guide's schedule for my 2nd playthrough on hard. Although may not need it by that time, we'll see.
Interview with Motomu Toriyama, director for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIIIhttp://www.siliconera.com/2014/02/14...final-fantasy/Motomu Toriyama, director for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, was in Singapore recently to promote the latest and last entry in the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. Siliconera stopped by the launch to catch up with Toriyama.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII just came out in the West. Prior to the game’s release, the embargo on the game’s review has lifted, and views on Lightning Returns have been a mixed bar so far, with some good reviews and a few bad ones. In your opinion, what would you say might be the cause of the mixed views on the game?
Motomu Toriyama, Dicrector: Well, I haven’t had a chance to see those reviews yet. But, personally I think perhaps the element of a time limit in this game could have been perceived as a form of restriction on the player’s freedom. In this game, the time management system is such that the player has to constantly be on the move, and take an active stance towards increasing the time limit and managing it.
And if you approach the game’s time limit in a positive manner, I think players will further understand the nuances and appreciate why we chose to implement this system. Even in Japan, what we’ve noticed is that opinions on the game become more positive after some time since Lightning Returns’ initial release [after players get used to the nuances].
The Final Fantasy XIII saga comes to a close with this game. But with that said, do you feel that this is absolutely the last tale you’ll ever tell within this universe, or do you think you might revisit it in the future? Will we ever see Lightning in a Final Fantasy title again?
For Lightning, her story ends here in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, as this game is meant as a finale to this series. But we know that Lightning is an extremely popular character, even when compared to other Final Fantasy characters.
So there is a possibility that Lightning would appear in other future Final Fantasy titles, not as a protagonist, but as a guest character.
Finally (and this is with regards to the ending in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, so Siliconera readers, you might want to come back to this part later after you’ve completed the game), although Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was just released in English this week, the game has been out for a while in Japan.
