Aerora, aerora and more aerora. Evade also really helps for dodging that annoying ass swallow move that I can never seem to block right and Heavy Guard for the spit/gas attacks too. Quick stagger (from wildlands main quest) weapon helps a lot too. If you have heavy slash with brave thief, use those as well (iirc). Other than staggering his ass ASAP, not much you can do to kill quickly. Luckily staggering isn't that hard with constant Aerora pressure and decent defense.
Just finished the game this weekend.
Absolutely loved it.

So either I'm missing something really obvious or you can't play an entirely new playthrough on Hard Mode.
You could rush through Normal but yeah, not completely fresh.
Question on the ending
Spoiler: show
I'm on day 11, 5/5 on MQ, and most side quests I've run into have been taken care of. What am I supposed to do for the last 2 days other than mindlessly farming stuff for the Canvas quests? Assuming I don't go looking through guides, do new quests unlock in random towns in these days, or should I just rush to the end at this point and see what's going on? I have over 40 side quests completed and currently it says 2 days left (again, on day 11) so I should be good right? Playing on Normal BTW.

Finding cameos recently. Noticed that the Warrior of Light is in the Coliseum poster and a certain someone's heart is locked in a box that has s symbol resembling Kingdom Hearts logo. Wildlands boss was a joke, with Helter Skelter garb; one overclock, a couple Army of Ones, and poof. About to start farming end day abilities, on Normal mode play through..

I'm having such a hard time getting the motivation to finish the platinum on this game lol
I was having a bad enough time in the final area of the game that I decided to just hit rewind and start the new game+ from the statue next to the final door... Couldn't really make it to the final form of the final boss with a decent amount of EP and healing items, and I was even struggling with some of those weird flying mobs in the surrounding chambers. Even the bonus dungeon on day 13 was ridiculously hard once I got about 4 floors down.
Oh well, might as well go through everything again and this time make it there when I'm actually prepared.
Managed to kill Aeronite on Day 7, very fun fight, enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm looking forward to trying the even harder version of it (at least I think there's one), and then trying it on Hard Mode as well. Gonna try to retry Aeronite fight now though, trying to kill without dying or using potions/hi potions. Did pretty well on my run just now, except that I fucked up my timing on guarding hellflare so I died once![]()
Try fighting it on hard mode during a Chaos storm...my nerves were well and truly frayed by the time it was over.
Also regarding the ending...

I don't see what's so bad about the story, in fact I think the FFXIII saga as a whole has the best story in the series. Bonus points for making me care about every single member of the main cast (unlike, say, Kihmari, Vaan, Yuffie, Selphie, Gau, Yang and all those other cast fillers from the previous titles...)
LR did an amazing job at wrapping up all the loose ends from the first two games, and I especially loved the resolution of Caius/Yeul/Noel's subplot at the end.
I mean people say XIII's story is "cheesy" and "predictable" but what about the other FFs? God help you when if start playing FFXV with this mentality because you won't enjoy it at all even without Toriyama's involvement (seriously give the guy a break, he's done a great job).
The gameplay was also a blast for me, and not once did the time limit trouble me since it's so easy to spam Chronostasis even on hard. The only thing I would do to improve the gameplay is adding a quick-CS button so you don't have to open the menu each time.
Overall a 9/10 game like XIII and XIII-2 in my opinion, reviews are being waaaaay too harsh and I can't fathom how this game is getting a lower score than Bravely Default or even FFXIV ARR.
I don't think the main complaints you usually hear about XIII's are 'cheesy' and 'predictable'.
Anyway, I finished the game a couple of days ago, doing some Hard Mode now but I'm not sure if I have enough patience to farm quests and drops over and over just to kill stronger versions of the old bosses D: Too bad there's not more additional content in Hard Mode and NG+ that would drive you to complete the story again.
I agree. I loved the story and it kinda made sense to me. When I see how the reviewers complain about the time limit, I think to myself, did they really play the game? Or did they just play it for an hour or two? One reviewer complained about the Last One mechanic and how it is a bad design to make a species go extinct because he can't fight them anymore, then also complains about not having enough time to explore. You can repeat your last one fights in the ark. You can stop the time as many times as you want if you kill monsters and farm EP. To me, bashing the series is a cool club that people love to join.
My only gripe is that the novellas were never officially translated and published.
