Does the 10 clover synth even have a higher chance of "getting something good"? I was under the impression that was bullshit, in which case there's not really any reason to use it over the single version. Given they both supposedly have a 33%~ chance at clovers, if those are all you're aiming for it's a lot wiser to just do the single version. You're much more likely to hit that 33% average given the much larger number of attempts.
My logic for doing the 10/10/10 recipe was always it'll give me other mats I need for it (which is why I'm doing clovers first), if the 1/1/1 recipe also gives decent amounts of the other mats then I could see it being better but I thought it was really low amounts of the t6 mats and other things.
I think it depends on the order you decide to do certain parts of your legendary, but if somebody wants to math out all the gold amounts and shit at current market prices be my guest. Keep in mind that Karma is pretty much a non-issue now since dailies/monthly and dungeons all give karma and are affected by boosters/guild boosts/banners.
I've made a decent amount of money using the x10 synth after I was done with all the obsidian shards I needed for legendary (been done for like a month). For me, lodestone's pop up enough that it makes it a no brainer.
You can get lodestones from the 10? And the smallest number of anything you can get is 10.. My friend got 43 clovers on one attempt

Doing the single recipe just gives you more rolls, which should give more averaged results. There's no benefit to doing the 10x recipe other than saving time feeding the forge. This is all assuming that both recipes have the same percentage yields. I doubt enough data has been gathered from the 10x recipe to be conclusive. Both recipes pull from the same pool of random results, with the 10 Clover recipe costing 10 times as much, and yielding 10 times more.
Because the 10 clover recipe results in larger yields, it is generally a better idea to use the single clover recipe to avoid acquiring large quantities of low value items.
Without more data it's a little inconclusive, but the results from both the 1 and 10 combines are literally identical from what I've seen. You just get 1-5 of stuff from the single instead of 10-50. And your friend is talking out his ass about the clovers, you always get 1 or 10 depending on which you do. Statistically you're looking at more averaged results from doing the 1 clover synth 100 times rather than doing the 10 clover synth 10 times, so it's considered a safer bet.
Update on clovers:
239 attempts > 64 Mystic Clovers
Still sitting at 26% clover rate
Also made around 10 gold from the mats and lodestones i received. Using the single recipe of course.
