It's not that I mind digital, I love buying my stuff digital over retail, it's just the fact that nintendo's online service is complete garbage and worse than any other online service available. I'm still going to buy the game but it sucks knowing if my 3DS breaks I can lose almost all my digital games because lolnintendo.

I want them to not be jerks and release it on other consoles' superior digital avenues. I'm all for exclusives, and kudos to them for even picking up the series and allowing it to grow, but damn, Nintendo simply cannot do anything worthwhile online.

The only real way to lose your downloads is if your 3ds is lost/stolen. If it breaks Nintendo can transfer the info for you.

Sorry, but I don't trust any company's PR team, let alone a company with a confirmed failed online support record like Nintendo, to handle a potential problem with any due expedience. I won't debate with you, however, as I know you're a true-blood Nintendo fan who is bound to pull some random statistic to make Nintendo look fantastic from a single light in the spectrum.

I'm still miffed about not getting Ace Attorney Investigations 2.

Pretty much everyone would have preferred a hard copy over digital download, but I'm just happy that we're getting the game stateside. Considering that we didn't get AAI2 and probably won't get the Phoenix/Layton crossover, I'm willing to go with whatever Capcom needs to do in order to get a localized release.

Idk I've always had a great experience with Nintendo's CS staff. When my wii broke (GPU died) I sent it in and they fixed it - when it broke a 2nd time the same exact way, I wrote in asking for a complete replacement of the system and they did that for me no questions asked. I would personally trust them but I still think it's stupid the way the online service works. Either way I'm sure I will be getting this game because Phoenix Wright, fuck yeah.

I hope there are enough PW fans left in the West to drive up the sales on this game and warrant the carryover of the 2nd Edgeworth game. I want that thing so bad.

there really any benefit to having a hard copy of the game rather than a download? Does it help against piracy? Better load times (if there are load times)? I know DD with the Vita is a disaster of long load times rather than having a hard copy of the game, dono if it works the same on the 3DS as i've never owned one yet.

Nintendo doesn't allow you to redownload your games whenever you want, you need to provide a police report if your 3DS or stolen in order to get your games transferred to a new device. Or you need to send it in to get repaired, and if they can't repair it, they'll let you transfer to a new one.

Buy a new PS3/360 to replace the one that broke? Just download it again because it's saved on your account when you log in. Buy a new Wii/WiiU to replace the one that broke? You're fucked unless you jump through some hoops with Nintendo's customer service, and even then it's not a guarantee.

Because Nintendo is old and has no idea how to properly embrace or utilize modern technologies that don't fit in with Nintendo's archaic "family computer" paradigm. When Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies leaves Japan this fall, it'll be available exclusively through the 3DS eShop. This reality of the publishing business has been met with backlash from some percentage of fans who really would just like a boxed copy, thanks. Taking to the Ask Capcom forums, senior VP Christian Svensson has clarified the nature of this release.

"... it is a sign of the times that increasingly our business is going digital and not everything is going to be in both formats," he commented. "Not every game is appropriate for both formats given the economics involved. This is similar to Darkstalkers Resurrection or [Resident Evil 4 HD] or Okami HD being physical in Japan, but digital in the West. Their COGS (costs of goods sold) and retail margins and reserve issues are entirely different there given the market differences. It's a sad fact, but it's still a fact."

One user raised a question I had wondered about as well, which is, will Dual Destinies be hurt by the eShop's discoverability? "I think you're selling yourself and the AA community short," Svensson wrote. "I also think you underestimate our relationship with [Nintendo of America] and what I hope will be our ability to keep it surfaced for more than just a few weeks. NOA has been extremely supportive of [Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate]. I see no reason why they wouldn't be equally supportive of AA:DD."

Svensson also brought up an interesting point about messaging. "We worked very hard to ensure a Western release on this title. If we'd said 'no, it's not coming', it would have triggered the inevitable 'please bring it to eShop, at least' cries. Instead we shortcutted that and brought it straight to eShop.

Sounds about right. People cry regardless.

PW is one game I will buy, since it's one of the few series, that specifically needs support (I want my AAI2 gdi); but with r4, even when I buy the game, I can still have a back up to go around nintendo and their customer service, plus any other game I want, lol

This is following the typical Japanese game trend in that the more sequels, the more idiotic everyone looks. We see it with most RPGs, with the Pokemon chara and monster designs, and especially here. Phoenix and co. look like bosses. These new people are silly. Who the fuck is letting a man in chains wear an outfit like that? Why do the assistants have to look doofier and doofier?
