Looking at the blackout:
It looks like it moves radially symmetrically outwards. Notice that the lights in newfoundland are still on, but Maine, Nova Scotia and New brunswick all seem to be out.

Trying to find the center:
I'd call that something like East Maine/Canada.
If it were a gigantic emp, devices would be overloaded and wouldn't be able to just turn back on with the pendants. The sun is on the other side of the Earth, so if it is somehow natural its not emanating from there. While I'm looking at stuff from the first episode, this is a shot of what Ben was downloading to his pendant:
Not sure why the hell there is a map of Michigan counties in the back there. The middle graph says "average velocity ..." something, and the upper one I have no idea. The equations on the left look like they're solving for some sort of energy?
I see terms for velocity, maybe momentum, and some constants describing a cylinder. Nothing illuminating as far as I can tell
