My point is that it doesn't matter why someone is depressed. It's prison. You're not supposed to be happy there. It's completely illogical to preform medically unnecessary surgery so people can feel good about themselves. And yes, it's medically unnecessary. No. More or less what's already been said. I have no problem with people who go out and want to do it on their own, good for them. We should not be paying for inmates to receive elective surgery. There are already a laundry list of things that are wrong with our penal system, allowing issues like this to occur is not something we should be adding.

On the upside, denying the surgery really is the best thing that could happen. You don't set precedent and you're not enabling a murderer. If they did commit suicide, then you also have a dead murderer so you have the eye-for-an-eye crowd, and the anti-death penalty people are still happy because the state didn't fry them.

Well, now that we've contemplated the possibility that this girl is really gaming the system for the lols or that she's suicidal from having murdered her wife, perhaps we could consider a less convoluted or Freudian possibility: that she's a transsexual. In which case i don't see the point in denying her the surgery, unless you wanted to punish her extra for the murder she committed, what, 10 years ago? In that regard, i'm pretty sure the justice system already gave her her punishment; she's in jail. So i don't see where the sudden thirst for blood came from for wanting her to be punished more. Did she kill someone's peace of mind recently?
