Even against Henge of Denravi I had fun, and I'm pretty sure EB hasn't had to go up against the absolute hardcoreness of HoD yet. Form a small group of people in the zone to get shit done. If you aren't at least doing that, you are part of the problem. It takes but 5 seconds to get a small group going from map chat.

I solo/duo supply camps for shits and giggles. You can do that 99% of the time on Ehmry since we're not put against insanely popular servers.

I just hope they remove free xfers soon.. if they let free xfers continue when they start 2 week WvW matches they are shooting themselves in the foot. Allowing free xfers even now ruins any sense of WvW community

I used Point Blank shot on a guy who was getting the half of the key thingamabob for that puzzle in WvW and ended up killing him because he hit something falling down.

    Felt pretty good tbh.

Ascalon Catacombs Story mode, with a friend and 3 pugs.
The experience just left me speechless. It was the most disastrous, boring and pointless experience I had since years.

The overall dungeon difficulty is set to so high it's not even funny, and it turns the whole "epic" experience in an endless zerg. And that's the FIRST dungeon players can access? What's the point in making it so difficult and punishing?

I can imagine that five guildies with voice communication, proper skills and traits will probably have a great time clearing it, but what's the point in making the game's first dungeon THAT hard? And exploration mode is even harder, so why they didn't just call them ELITE DUNGEON CHALLENGES FOR COOL PEOPLE, instead of streamlining them into the single player experience?

Not to mention, their whole "no holy trinity!" manifesto backfires when it comes to pugs. In most MMORPG, idiots can still stick to DPS and eventually be carried along thanks to a good tank, healer and at least one dps.
Anyone has a clear goal he has to accomplish, like "healing others" or "soak damage".

In GW2, the whole thing becomes so complicated because I'm sitting with strangers and I don't know what they're planning to do.
Unless, of course, I sit for ten minutes and start to set a group strategy on the fly, hoping that every single party members has a clear and deep knowledge of the profession he's playing.
So I get it ANet, GW2 is meant to encourage players to act together and then this is how you tune dungeons "easy mode"? WoW.

agreed, AC shouldn't be the very first dungeon you approach. I had a similar experience when I stepped into AC story with a PUG, which was also my first dungeon experience ever. the party disbanded after 20min. however, since then I've done CM and TA story/explorer sucessfully and enjoy the given difficulty greatly. that is, with ls groups and chat.

IMO every story mode should be tuned to a difficulty, where PUGs at the corresponding level don't have to zombie it. I'm not talking about removing game mechanics like grabbing pillows to not get two-shot-spiked in that one CM room. trash mobs with high hp and one-shot mechanics, those are really demoralizing.

also, I feel like that "no more holy trinity!" slogan didn't do the game a favour. what ANet meant is, that there is no holy trinity defined by classes. you don't have to look for a whm, a pld and any given dps. what people (read PUGs) seem to forget is, that you actually need someone spec healing/support, someone tough etc. they succeeded with that promise to some degree. as example, I succesfully finished TA explo with 4 x rng and one ele. it was a ls group, not easy at all and we were close to giving up towards the end. can't see how that should've worked with a level 55 PUG.

my complain? no love for rng. there's a sticky thread in the official rng forums with a long list of bugs and all we got so far is:

    • Entangle: This skill is now properly affected by the Wilderness Survival trait Wilderness Knowledge.
    • Lick Wounds: This skill now functions only with ranger pets.
    -_-

No you don't. You need people to not play stupidly. There are a couple of people in my guild that are specced for healing/support but often times they're not on when we do dungeons and we do just fine. Granted almost everybody in our guild has come to the understanding that it's generally a bad idea to play glass cannon. Even then glass cannon can work if you're extremely skilled at dodging and knowing what the enemy is doing. PUGs fail because they don't learn the patterns of the mobs or listen to somebody telling them the patterns. AC story mode is incredibly easy after you understand how the bosses work and anybody at any level, with any build could do it if they took the time to watch how the mob operates and adjust their play accordingly.

Also knowing what combos you can make with your team is incredibly useful. As a thief I have superior sigil of bloodlust on my shortbow and while building up the kills for that I can: Give AoE Might, Give AoE Healing, Give AoE Retaliation, Give AoE Frost Armor, AoE Weakness, AoE Swiftness, Remove Conditions and so on, and most of that is just with a single Elementalist in the group. This is on top of doing a ton of AoE damage. I've grown pretty much aware of how our Elementalist cycles his moves and can get several combos off for each field he puts down, and if nobody is putting down fields I can do AoE Weakness by myself. I do all of this without having any support skills/traits on.

Also Break Stun moves are your friend.

I didn't find AC too hard on my first run, but I also wound up using rifle most of the time largely to learn how the mobs worked in the process. Once it felt like I could melee, then I'd go in. I have a feeling what fucks up a lot of groups is everyone just deciding to click coffins at the beginning. Suddenly you've got a half dozen ghosts, and maybe the mini-boss, raping your face. But after that, patience goes a long way, even if it means kiting some mobs out from the narrow halls back into wider spaces. I was also running glass cannon, too.

But yeah, I guess if you manage to find people with zero analytical skills, no ability to follow directions, and mindless impatience, I can definitely see any dungeon being troublesome.

23k HP and 2800 armor (I'm a necro, you have no idea how stacked my toughness is lol) and dieing before I can respond to thieves, literally in about 2 seconds.

They would do like 9k backstab, 7k c&d, 8k heartseekers, etc. Just started having this happen this matchup, so ridiculous, they never killed me before now.

Edit: and no this isn't somebody getting ganked out in the middle of nowhere not watching his surroundings. This is in battles where I notice a thief and go to redirect him, only to have him instagib me.

I don't know why people complain about dungeon difficulty, its a learning process, when you know what bosses do it becomes such a snoozefest its unbelievable. I think people coming from WoW get way too bitchy about this because of the lack of a DBM mod which tells you to move out of something or the boss is preparing some sort of move. Step up and pay attention to what's going on around you and stop waiting for other people or mods to do all the work for you.

Our dungeon group pretty much steamrolls after we get a couple runs, usually just one though, under our belt. None of that namby pamby easiest route only shit either

I can legit just go afk for a good chunk of the bosses I've done so far, I personally think they need to increase the difficulty and lower the HP (not for all bosses for this part though) of most stuff. The easy fights take way too long and the ones that actually take you paying attention (Alpha in CoE, etc) just feel like they drag on forever because of how active you have to be during the fight.

That is not what happens. The option to zerg the whole place kills any need to learn about its mechanics. If ANet want to keep people on their toes (and idiots from clearing dungeons, because that's a consequence), then they have to put a time limit to them. If you group is unfitting for a dungeon (bad gear, bad skills, bad reactions) then it should not be able to complete it, not even in 5 hours of zerg.

What makes things worst is that you can't even figure out who the weakest link is. You can't check other players' gear, not their skills or traits. You just keep wiping, and it could be for countless reasons (stood in a fire, terrible gear, unfitting traits, etc).

A lv.30 dungeon should serve as a "tutorial" to explain what GW2 dungeon design is about. To make newbies realize there won't be an healer saving their asses, or a tank that will hold all monsters to him.

Our dungeon group pretty much steamrolls after we get a couple runs, usually just one though, under our belt.
Point being, it's bad design to have "easy mode" dungeons requiring a static/guild party.
Especially when the whole game is advertized on the premise that everyone helps everyone.

The main issue everybody has with that dungeon the first couple of times is everybody walks in there with 5 signet specs and think shits gonna work out.

I run dungeons as a glass cannon and, for the most part, do just fine so.. if I can do that where shit kills me fast if I'm not on my toes dodging shit, then it shouldn't be that big of a problem for others.

Now of course.. our first run of CoE on the 'medium' path, I think I was focus-fired by every fucking boss there and died a shit ton of times, but after we got everything figured out, learned the boss's attacking mechanics.. it's fairly smooth.

Considering you have to fight the stupid thing three times I'd hope everyone would learn the mechanics.

It's not bad design and you don't require a static or a guild. You literally just stated what you need to do to succeed.

Everyone helps everyone. PUGs fail because nobody works together as a team, nobody does combos, and people don't raise other people. This is not the fault of the developers or a design flaw, this is the product of people not knowing what the fuck they are doing and being bad at the game in general. You can't force people to work together but you can sure as hell punish people that don't in the parts of the game that require it most.
