I hate to be the one to say it but that really is a case of "learn to play". The fact of the matter is you do have the freedom to gear and stat however you like, but that doesn't mean you can just be good at everything. If you gear completely offensive with no gear or stats focusing on vitality or toughness, of course you're gonna get your shit slapped if you get hit. If you want to spec that way you have to be prepared to learn how to mitigate damage as your class, be it simple kiting and evading or making good use of crowd control skills and damage mitigation (blind/blocks/etc). The game doesn't punish you for gearing glass cannon until you're pretty far in to the levels, by that point you should start to be comfortable with your class and learning the ins and outs of it. The game has a very linear climb in difficulty (outside of dungeons which will probably make you shit yourself at 30, and maybe Orr zones where mobs get much more aggressive), so there isn't ever a time you just hit a wall and suddenly can't handle stuff. If you notice you start struggling with something it teaches you to adjust or regear accordingly.

And I'm more than fine with that in dungeons, but I'm not going to act like its the easiest thing in the world for some classes to get through story quests alone or fight certain mobs, even when geared for vit/toughness. I'm all about learning one's class and whatnot, and its not even an issue for me (A) I'm ranger; B) I know my class), but I hear the L2Play defense far too often in every game where something can be construed as a flaw.

How many times did people throw out the L2Play shield when Arrowburns and Rampage-burns were running wild in XI? How many times did we hear the L2Play "justification" when Ret Pally's were breaking the shit out of everyone at the end of TBC? It was thrown out left and right in Diablo 3, and we know how OP certain classes and specs were compared to others. I can't stand hearing it all the time.

You wanna make toughness/vit a mandate for nearly every class and spec in dungeons? Sure. Go for it. You shouldn't be in there if you can't handle the heat. But basic PVE? At higher levels when levels essentially mean nothing in the grand scheme of a game like this? I'm not going to blow up on someone for complaining in a complaint thread.

Staff Ele is just terrible for PvE. Dps is the lowest and it has 1 AoE cripple, 1 AoE chill, 1 directional bind and 1 knock back, all of which are on 40+ second cool downs. That being said, it is the best support weapon if you have a group that knows how to combo.

Try scepter/dagger. 2 blinds, 1 knockdown, 1 AoE knock back/down and the potential to self combo 12 stacks of might.

Not the best example since I'm a Mesmer (lol), but I'm geared glass cannon using gear far below my level and still solo story missions 5 levels above me. Even if mobs stay focused on me entirely I have stuns, knockbacks, distortions (makes you invincible for X seconds) and stealth to put some distance between me and the mob when I need to. Every class I have played has had plenty of ways to handle mobs. I've played with Shiyo's Ele enough to see what ridiculously survivability that class can have through good skill use, the only other classes I can imagine have any struggle are Thief and Necro, and Thief has a ton of tools to help it survive (even geared glass cannon). Necro is not something I am well versed in, but I imagine with minions and conditions they don't have a ton of issues either.

Necro minionmancer is so easily powerful in PvE it's almost boring. It kills slowly, but you simply cannot die. No dodging involved, just walk up and drop buffs and debuffs for your minions to smack stuff.

The issue is you're complaining about something that simply isn't true. This really is the easiest PvE leveling MMO I have ever experienced. Regardless of class.

It's really bad in high aggro areas like Orr though. But you can still use it, since just staff + kiting can kill groups of enemies with some patience. Necro's biggest issue is single target damage, certainly not survivability.

What would my explorable count have to do with anything, much less in a complaint thread? Hell, what does explorable mode have to do with the freedom of stat-allocation and gearing when PVE leveling?

I've levelled both a tanky class (Guardian) and a squishy class (Ranger) to 80 and I never once felt I was ever constrained to defensive gear while leveling.

You never need to gear defensively for general PVE/leveling, ever. I leveled in full MF gear on my first char <___<

I got no issues unless I drag like 10 mobs on me.

Flesh golem is more than happy to help with pulling. Or other times it'll just stand around while stuff hits you or it. But really just a pack of a few mobs with aoe can wipe out all your minions pretty fast. Or maybe they'll all get to low HP at the same time, and give you issues with the next pack unless you cycle your skills to kill them off and wait for the recasts. In general, I just find them annoying in Orr.

Those are both the best tanks in game though!

Would put Elementalist at least on a comparable level at a base standpoint, especially for leveling content.

Sorrows Furnace turned into the Brazilian server. Fuck everything about that. Why the hell didn't ArenaNet handle servers better? My server went from decent at WubWub to buttfuck retarded over the course of two weeks. I refuse to believe that this just happened naturally.

Elementalist is one of the tankiest classes in the game.

Also what the fuck with shit still being broken. I mean I can understand things in the level 80 area being broken because testers probably didn't get there, but when a skillpoint is broken in a starter area or a jumping puzzle is glitched in WubWub, it makes you question what ArenaNet is spending their time on. Stop being Square Enix...

Bugged skillpoints are mainly because of retarded people doing shit to the mobs that they shouldn't and who gives a fuck about jumping puzzles being bugged?
