I think a lot of people still like the holy trinity, probably because they're used to it.

I'm kinda on the fence. I really like both concepts. But sometimes I do wish I had a hate management move on guardian just to keep shit glued to me.
Rift still exists? I thought it was hanging out with WAR and AoC in MMO heaven.
Also, I think a lot of the people that are complaining about a lack of a gear grind in GW2 are confused. A gear treadmill is just a form of character progression post level cap, it doesn't actually make you stronger relative to contemporary content/pvp/etc. Like the HP and DPS numbers in WoW now vs. 4 years ago, people are "stronger" I guess, but the baseline is constantly being reestablished, so it doesn't really matter.
Edit: Also. A.net might (I think they said they would in expansions) increase stats on gear later on, or raise level cap, etc. That's cool and all, but for the time being it means that their new boss encounters, dungeons, whatever, will probably derive their difficulty, if you want to call it that, from game play elements rather than just "double its hp and armor, bam, new boss" like some games do. Lots of enemies in GW2 have fucking stupid HP, but I think that's more of a design flaw than anything intentional.
If GW2 were to introduce some kind of non-trivial post-80 progression, I'm sure a lot of malcontents would gladly suckle at a.net's loving teat for years to come.
I understand why people like gear treadmills on the PvE side of things. I'm not big on it myself, as I've done it far too many times and am simply sick of doing it anymore. But I understand the mentality. PvP specific gear grind though, that shits for the birds. Terrible terrible design and fuck anybody that wants that in their game. I will Charr rape you.
TERA was fine, with the trinity setup, and it had the best combat of any game I've played, but they just had too many DPS classes, shitty, boring grinds, and stupid one-hit boss moves. I would love to see a game that had the deep story of SWTOR, the combat of TERA, and the event alla GW2/Rifts that didn't have boring grinds. GW2's combat is fun enough, coupled with the event's that they create, but god does the story just sucks in everything they do.
I've come to the conclusion that a perfect MMO will never come.
GW2 is my perfect MMO.
I found GW2's story missions amazingly fun, epic, and awesome. Claw island was especially my favorite, the losing it and defending it was soo well done omg ^-^. The final fight before zhaitan was also GODLY until they RANDOMLY FUCKING NERFED IT FOR CASUAL FAGGOTS for no reason. Story arah was amazing until the bugged zhaitan final form shit...
I really loved the story/missions, and enjoy doing them multiple times ;D SWTOR story/missions weren't anywhere near GW2's imo.
This game basically has everything good taken from every video game, amazing action based combat, amazing crafting, amazing actual economy, only 5 mans and no raids, world PVP(WVW),rated PVP, awesome story, good looking chars(I only like human female though ;p), amazing looking armor/weapons, fun as classes with amazing concepts, etc.
The only problem with this game is event scaling(Why does having 20 people at an event make the mobs spawn 84 and instead of dying in 2 seconds they die in 1? that's scaling? No..make them all spawn as fucking vets/champs), infinite mob HP (theme of the game imo) and lots of unviable weapons/utilities/traits/specs/overall class balance being complete garbage except for guardian/warrior/engineer and INFINITE BUGS FOR NO REASON.
Traehern is the worst central protagonist in any game I've ever played. Why couldn't Tybalt be the main guy? And it could have turned out that Zhaitan's only weakness is apples.
Dude, why the hell aren't WE the main protagonist. Fuck this sidekick bullshit.
You guys suck traehearne is amazing and I love him T_T
Traeherne sucks, i get that his Wyld Hunt is to restore Orr to its former glory. Which if your a sylvari ties in with your Wyld Hunt/Caithe's wyld hunt. But the character is so monotonous its beyond boring listening to him at times and the second this guy breezes along your mentor dies, fuck that shit. Dude gets caladbolg and uses the 1 skill all the time, give me that shit and i can wreck with it. But the 3 orders needed an independent character with knowledge on orr, so we get the plant man.
But thats how it's been in every guild wars story, you're there to aid whoever (mhenlo/togo/kormir) in their goal (prophecies/affliction/nightfall) and they take all the credit.
