Extended breastfeeding

Seems like people usually have a lot to say about breastfeeding in public, I came across this and was wondering what you guys thought about it.

Basically, most women in the US tend to follow the formula of breast feeding for 6 months, adding in cereal at 4 months, and baby food at the 6 months mark with milk suppliments for until the baby is about a year old.

Many moms stop even way before that.

I was reading that a lot of other countries do it for much longer than that, but I can't verify that.

Anyway, many woman now are breastfeeding until the child stops wanting it. The child in the time's cover is 3. I found this article:

My own two sons stopped nursing near each end of the physiological “weaning window,” one at close to 3, the other closer to 5 or 6.

Now, for me, I still plan to stick to the method I described above, especially since I have a low supply as is, and have to supplement with formula. I will say though the doctor always acts like I just told her I'm Hitler's best friend when I mention that. I think many US pediatricians are trying to get woman to extend to at least two years.

So bg, when is it too long? or is there never a limit?

well , it's not 100% but basically as long as you keep feeding your body will keep producing. That's why way ass back in the day women could make a living nursing rich women's children.

As to your question, whenever you feel like it's time to take them off the tit is the right time. You are the mother after all lol

I'd say as long as the mother wants to keep producing it (within reason), go for it. Six months, 3 years, whatever. I know as a dad, I'd be getting in on that milk anyway, so I'd leave the decision up to her.

I think it's weird past like about 4-5 (Kid's going to school at that point), but tbh unless they're my kids it's none of my business. Do whatever feels right.

People can do whatever they want, but that said... anything past 2 strikes me as weird as all hell.

And wtf@4 and beyond. I can remember shit pretty well from starting around that age, and that is one of those childhood things you typically really don't want to remember.

All I can think about is Grown Ups when that kid is breastfeeding, shit would be awkward as hell to be around, not saying breastfeeding (when age appropriate) is awkward either, I couldn't care less if a woman wants to pop out her shit and feed her newborn in public lol.

If they had a suction milk system and gave it to them in cups or something that'd be better but to suck on your moms tit when you damn sure will have the memories later in life is just WEIRD, at least imho... but eh, it's their body wtfever

I'd go with 1-2ish. Probably closer to 1ish. It's very good for the child in early development and I think it's not even possible for formula's to make up for some other effects of breastfeeding (passing on antibodies to help the immune system or whatever technically happens there). Once the child can fully eat other food on their own, go for the switch, but breastfeed until then, I don't think a "formula" really fits into what naturally is supposed to happen, so I wouldn't depend on that for anything but to complement breastfeeding.

fwiw, breast pumps don't stimulate the breast as well as actual feeding, so I don't know how long your boob would produce if you only pumped. As well there are studies that suggest that pumped milk loses some of the nutrients from being refrigerated.

You asked a forum full of men when it is appropriate for a woman to stop breastfeeding her child. I'm sure the father and mother of these children decided on what they feel is appropriate for their children.
