I got a speeding ticket (while in GA) driving my friend's car from GA to Miami (his license was suspended); I must have been driving around at least 80-85 mph or something on the I-75; shit cost around 700 bucks, no joke. Since I never planned on going back to GA, I just said "fuck that" with Yao Ming face and everything, and never bothered to pay for it. The two speeding tickets I managed to get in FL (90 on a 55 and 110 on a 75) combined didn't even amount to 700. GA is serious business.

I have no idea how well linked the GA and FL databases are, but here in the NW, the cops check for anything outstanding from anywhere in the states. I got popped for an unpaid parking ticket in Texas from back in 2003 when my dad left my car parked downtown after a night of drinking and rode a cab home. I had no idea the ticket even existed. When I got pulled over for leaving my emergency strobes on in my work truck, they ran my shit and sat me in the back of a cop car for an hour. $25 parking ticket cost me $185 because I didn't know about it.

In your case, you know about the ticket and have actively avoided it. Could get a lot worse than $185 and some time in the back of a cop car...

It's not always worth going to court. In the area I live, speeding ticket prices are determined by how much over the limit you were going (as I'm sure they are elsewhere.) If you get cited on the freeway, they usually only put you in the lowest bracket as long as you're not a dick when you get pulled over. If you take it to court, whatever was on the cop's radar gun gets thrown at you. So if you have no good case, your ticket price would likely go up around here.

I've left the country since the ticket (ticket was around '04 or so, I left in '07) so it hardly matters now. Unless I go back, when it could potentially come back with a vengeance.
