To be fair, they don't claim to own all rights to a network, they own 12.2% of the LTE patents (article linked in the that cnet article). Qualcomm owns 12.5% and Nokia 18.9%. Those 3 own the most LTE patents apparently. It will probably end up with a "you need to offer a license for a fair price to Apple", but funny none the less.

yes and be prepared for a cluster fuck of timed out pages and shit, the apple site is so bogged down that its almost impossible to get through. But yes, you need to stay up until 12PST/3AMEST

I remember it usually opens in the late late night / early morning. And plan for the apple store being down without being able to preorder as lots of people would be hammering the site...

Is the apple site able to upgrade/alter my data plan? I've never bought a phone from them. Is it like buying one at Best Buy (even though they're not Verizon, they can change my plan)?

you can change your plan and all i believe..

actually I believe you just preorder the phone thru apple and change your plan in iTunes whenever you go to activate it.

It's one of the two previous options.

I assume they have access to your plan details since they sell for the 2 year contract renewal price as well.

It seems terribly difficult to find an unlimited data plan in the U.S., especially with the upcoming demand for LTE...

So... What's the best way to keep my unlimited with AT&T and sell off my 4S without losing a lot of money/breaking even? I know I heard of people terminating their contracts and keeping the unlimited plan but they seem to be pretty strict about not letting me do that.

AT&T will let you keep your grandfathered unlimited data plan AND let you pay the cheaper price for a two year renewal.

Verizon is one or the other.

But I'd ask a rep on the phone.

That's what I did and she said early termination would have to be paid and I couldn't keep my plan.

I'm confused. Why are you trying to cancel your plan? Are you not eligible for an upgrade?

I don't think he wants to. I think he's under the impression that he has to pay for the iPhone retail (non commit) or lose his grandfathered in unlimited data plan. That's how it works with verizon. Thankfully with AT&T you get the upgrade price and keep your old ass unlimited plan.

At least that's what I got outta it

Maybe I wasn't too clear, I bought a 4S at launch last year and don't have an upgrade for another 6 months. I've heard of people doing early termination and still keeping their unlimited plan but AT&T just told me if I did early term and pay to upgrade the phone, I would have to go tiered.

Ahh I misunderstood. I apologize. Hmm yeah idk how it works with AT&T. I work at sprint and I know our customers can call account services/retentions and buy out the rest of the contract to be made upgrade eligible immediately without effecting the plan or anything. Too bad sprints network blows or I'd give up my AT&T lol

Above link is still good info for people trying to keep their unlimited plan

Let me know how it works out for you

the new Nano looks really cool.

Don't see too many Android customers jumping ship over this though. Doesn't really beat the best Android has to offer in any category.

Definitely the phone to buy if you're still holding on to your 3GS or iPhone 4, though.

Ah, yeah. I think it's because AT&T and Verizon are pushing people towards their shared data plans now. Any change bumps you off your current plan.
