In Summary

Video trolling dumbasses= protected free speech despite causing violence and deaths of 3 americans.

Pedophile book= Not protected free speech despite the fact there is no proof it lead to any violence.

#1 - It is your opinion that the video caused the violence. Even if it was the only catalyst behind the violence it in no way directly caused the fucking violence. There were many factors going on including the proximity to 9/11 and the killing (or capture?) of high ranking al qaeda leader approximately 2 months ago that they pledged retaliation for. Watch the Democracy Now! video someone posted yesterday.

#2 - How is a pedophile book supposed to cause violence? Is that your premise? You're missing the point.

#3 - I know absolutely nothing about this pedophile book, but if it was a manual for how to be a pedophile, something that is illegal, then it's not protected under free speech. This is the same reason that you can not publish a book detailing how to build a nuclear bomb even if you know how. Is the difference between these things and actual art not that evident to you?

It's not moderate christians that started softening christianity's murderous ways, it's growing secular dissent and the ensuing progressive loss of influence.

It's not altruism, it's not change in doctrine, it's basic survival.

I never said that religion altruistically becomes less violent over time, only that Islam is behind the curve with regards to reaching the point where it mellows out and becomes like most strains of Christianity/Judaism are today because of its age and lack of major reforms.

Most of the reforms that resulted in the weakened powers of today's Catholic Church happened within the last 200 years which is a blink in the history of the religion on the whole. If you factor in all of the troublesome practices reinforced by both Catholics and Protestants you're brought within earshot of modernity depending on what you want to blame religion for.

Kinda doubt it. The movie itself is pretty solid evidence the dude is dumb as hell and really wasn't putting much thought into it.

Being offensive isn't illegal by any stretch. It's only illegal if you are intentionally inciting (not just knowingly causing, but intentionally inciting) rioting and/or violence. Yeah, it's a blurry as fuck line.

It's also one that I think this guy crossed, and also don't think he is the type to martyr himself for the cause.

He'll play the "artistic expression, showing my personal opinion" card and get off no problem - the guy is a snake and "getting away" with this is going to be a cakewalk.

But if he was going to go balls out and say "I wanted to show the world what animals these people are, and knew that this film would cause them to show their true monstrous nature, and it worked spectacularly" complete with a Kefka laugh, then yeah I think he's in violation of the law and should be prosecuted accordingly.

That's all.

Dude's gonna be fine, obviously. Well, unless they start after him on some fake ID shit or whatever, I dunno if there's an angle to pursue there.

The line here is not blurry, only the line you're trying to turn this into is blurry.

You can say whatever the fuck you want to piss people off, even knowing they'll respond violently, if what you're saying has nothing to do with violence.
