My current playtime does not benefit from playing on a mostly NA server... but god damnit fuck that lag. I welcome regional servers with open arms.
If I die to fire and it's not my connection that is fucking up, I will be so maaaaaad.

Not really. There are plenty of EU players, the issue will be the language barrier considering most can't even speak English properly <_<
Edit: Who cares anyway? Isn't that what the content finder is for? Just search for players on NA servers if there isn't enough on your own.
Yeah, after the big uproar over the server merge, and folks not wanting their "communities" to be split up to different servers, it's interesting that we may get round two of the exact same thing.
The problem with letting people choose is that unless they designate a server or servers as "world servers" (in the sense of 'has no region association') the out-of-region population will probably become so low it might as well be non-existent. As I've said before, I'm most interested in knowing what will happen to current servers and players. I'd rather not have to decide which of my friends I'll continue to play with and which I'll never see again, which is exactly what will happen if my server ends up being designated JP or EU and folks are allowed to transfer.
It's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, and a shame for those who do enjoy playing with folks from different countries, because even though they plan to offer a choice, it will probably no longer be a viable choice.
My only gripe will be with the economy. I sell the most during jp primetime;/
Is there like a full youtubed version? Letter was at 4am on a work day ._.
Someone posted a similar request on the OF and it turned up this video. Not sure if it's what you're looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGgxS3Lkc4A
Just skimmed the thread and didn't see any of this posted.
http://gematsu.com/2012/09/initial-d...ps3-in-octoberThis might be a bit confusing. Square Enix previously said it will share details on the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV at the Tokyo Game Show next week. But according to producer Naoki Yoshida, speaking in the game’s latest “Letter from the Producer” broadcast, “initial information” on the PlayStation 3 version won’t come out until mid-October.
“We’ll be releasing the initial information [on the PS3 version] around mid-October,” he said. “I believe we’ll have screenshots first, but please hang in there! The actual video is pretty (while looking at the Windows version screen), but the quality is a bit messed up in the broadcast.”

If you want to blame something for this, you should put a lot more of it on the terrible coding/server decisions rather than the actual location of the servers.
If you believe them this should be vastly improved for ARR, and when you consider things like a universal 3 second timer for weaponskills and spells (that is, it'll take for fucking ever relative to milliseconds).. I believe it makes regional servers overkill. The actual benefit of it versus splitting everyone up by country after 2+ years makes this a terrible decision.
Ughhhhh at the reducing gil thing! Hopefully I can shift some onto my retainers and not lose it...... crap. Seems I am going to have to spend a load then.
Wait what? I though our Gil remained intact but they just reduces maximum from 999 999 999 to 99 999 999
Before this gets out of hand, here's the story, and tl;dr -- we don't exactly know yet.
The two translations that are out there give slightly different implications.
This makes it sound as if the *only* thing happening is the max gil is reduced, with no indication of what happens to anyone who has more than 100mil. Like items over 100, it could go to an NPC, or it could be lost for good. If this scenario ends up being true, folks with more than 100 mil will surely distribute their gil to other characters before 1.0 goes down. If there wasn't a way for rich players to get around it, this would balance out the uneven economy, but in a way that isn't entirely fair and would create a lot of ill will from some players.Originally Posted by Bayohne
This is being interpreted as a simple redemoniation. Everyone (players, NPCs, everything involving gil) basically get their gil cut to 1/10th of what it was before. Proportionally, items cost an "identical" amount and relative wealth stays exactly the same; 2.0 just deals in smaller numbers.Originally Posted by Reinheart
Long story short (too late!), until there's some clarification from the devs, we don't know exactly what they are planning to do. Lets not make this into a stupid argument like the OF until we get more information.
That is how it is meant i'm pretty sure, I don't know why other people are reading into it differently. So unless you are insanely rich and have above 99,999,999 gil, this won't affect you. Can just distribute the gil over retainers and other players if you are above the new cap I guess, or they will probably do what they are doing with inventory and have an NPC hold the excess ready to collect after 2.0 launches.
Edit: Never saw the other translation, guess confirmation is needed then :/
They may change the maximum, but everyone's gil is being divided by 10, so if you had 1000 before, you'll have 100 now. It's probably to increase the value of gil. in practice, this means everyone will be losing 0-0.9 gil during the conversion (except not really).
I dont see anywhere where it says that LD show us a link plz
They really need to clarify this gil thing as it's not something you should make assumptions with and then take a risk. If there's no clarification by September 27th (the deadline for creating new characters I believe) I'll be moving my gil. Can we even trust that retainers will hold gil in 2.0 or that we'll have two retainers? I thought they were getting rid of one retainer but I may be wrong.
I've read (goodness knows if it's true, or where it came from) that retainer items (and player items over 100) will go to a special NPC/place that you reclaim them from. While there's been no talk of it recently, the 2nd retainer at release was always referred to as "temporary".
