I'm a little worried about the learning curve, as I've heard MH can take a bit to get everything in order. Hopefully online folks will take some pity on me for the first few days.
normally you'll get used to the controls by about 10 hours which is roughly end of 3 star/start of 4 star quests, then its time to get ready for the real game

Yeah the learning curve can be steep, but it really isn't as impossible as a lot of naysayers would like people to think. A lot of it is preparedness too. If you preordered it at Gamestop, then at least the digital guide will help you with that part. If not there is a guy trying to get help translating the 1200 page book, and of course there are going to be plenty of online resources popping up. A handful out there already. A lot of this game is just going into the fights ready. Whether that is arming yourself with the proper weapon for a certain monster, the proper element, having as many potions and whetstones, etc. as you can carry, knowing monsters weak points, and on and on. Once you get the hang of this stuff, it is a pretty crazy ride.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually thinking of trying to pick up a psp version or something to just get familiar with it. Does the game really differ from version to version significantly?

In general? No not very much. The core stays very much the same from game to game. There are of course some improvements, tweaks to combos, damage tweaks, and new monsters, new skills, etc. from game to game. But stripped down, playing MHFU (for example) will go a long way in two weeks to getting you familair with the general way the game progresses as well as being able to build your own armor and weapons from nothing. That would likely be the cheapest route, you could also buy Tri for Wii and play it on your Wii U. The only reason I would think MHFU would be smarter is because it has Bow, Hunting Horn, etc. The weapons the Tri did not. There are monsters in MHFU that sadly (looking at you two, Daimyo and Shogun) won't be showing up in MH3U, but you still will get a lot out of it.

If you do happen to pick up MHFU here is a great resource for info.

I have to point out though, that you really don't NEED to spend money to 'prepare' for MH3U. The single player, offline portion of 3U will do that for you just fine. If you really don't want to go in totally blind though, and have the money and time to kill in the next two weeks, go for it. MHFU looks and plays great on Vita too =P

the controller sits differently in your hand so its not worth trying to get used to it

I ask myself that every morning when I wake up. I want it today. I am looking forward to hearing what the Bradygames E-Guide has in it. Sad that they aren't doing a physical copy, but if nothing else, it means it will be all over the internet come the 19th so I should have no trouble hearing impressions of it.

I really think that this title may have me the most spread out on weapon choice. Saw an special event SnS last night that looked badass... and of course made want to use it immediately.

Quick and Easy Weapon Breakdowns from Arrekz Gaming

These are just the weapons (don't think he has done Heavy Bowgun yet) but he has a few others that are explaining items and the two monsters. IC, if you want to add this to the OP I figure it can't hurt yeah? I figure we could get a ID list specifically for MH in there too at some point and later on links to good Wiki pages. Thoughts?

Nice effort laying things out for beginners and all but wow, does he have any videos with the audio in sync with the footage?

Dying to tear into the game as well. It's been a long time since I've just been this eager to play something.

I'm still not sure bout this game i have some other questions for the big fans

    1) In online mode, once you enter a quest, can more people join or you need to stay like that till the end of the said quest

So we enter 2 in a quest, and a friend log, can he join in the middle of have to wait till quest ends

    2) About difficulty, is the fight difficulty set or it gets more diffucult with more people

Aka does mob have more HP and hit harder if you are 4 in quest then if you were 2?

once a quest is started (as in your on the hunt) no more people can enter, the online bosses have about double the hp of offline bosses but with 4 people attacking it acts like half the amount of hp (as long as people are geared well)

EDIT: Beaten like a sorry ass Giaprey...

When you are in a city (4 person lobbies) any one player can initiate a quest and then the others in that city will join that quest. Those players will then flag up as ready, and once everyone is ready the person who initially chose the quest will start the quest.

Anyone in the city that hasn't readied up, even if they have joined the quest, will be left behind. Likewise if you and two friends are in a quest, no one can join.

As for difficulty, online quests are said to just be doubled in difficulty. Basically all online quest bosses are believed to be scaled for 2 players. Whether you are soloing online or have a full group of four, the difficulty remains the same. A bit easier than Tri where online was scaled for four players.
