Thinking about it some more (because I can't stop thinking about this game at this point...) Type 4 would be great if you have trouble surfacing or diving with the stick for some reason.

They seriously need to allow 3DS users to somehow play online. I don't want to drop all that cash for a wiiU just for MH Multiplayer. Where all the local LA area people at?! QQ
Best you are going to get (and this has yet to be confirmed outside of EU and JP if I am not mistaken, but it is likely) is the "MONSTER HUNTER 3 ULTIMATE Packet Relay Tools" download for the 3DS that will only allow you online if you pair it with a Wii U... and a Wii LAN Adapter.
Ill add most people tonight or tomorrow, so check your FL
I'll add Mots even if he is a Pens fan (he's not that annoying so he passes)
Not sure if this is still worth getting on the 3DS.
Might have to hold out until I get a WiiU. Online seems like a big part of this game.
Hes thinking of Mote that posts in the hockey thread, lol.
Fuck me
Go ahead and laugh
If it makes you feel any better I am also not terribly annoying. =P
Lol
Added everyone from the spreadsheet
Tried the demo at a friend's place, so um, you can't tell how much damage you've dealt, and the fights have a time limit?
I'm totally not understanding the appeal so far, the combat is sluggish and the controls are clumsy...
I'm guessing it's the trill to destroy big fucking monster![]()
It just isn't an easy game to get in one go, and sadly the demo gives you just two monsters out of 40+ the game has to offer. They aren't even the best ones... F U Plessy.
I never really understood why the lack of a boss HP bar was such a bad thing to some people. I can understand it being strange I suppose, but not a drawback. Whenever people criticize the lack of a HP gauge they are usually met with the canned defense that "you are meant to learn the bosses tells". It will move differently when out of stamina, low on HP, has a broken claw, etc. I think that knee jerk defense is still pretty much the best one. Is it for everyone? Not at all.
If there is another complaint that gets a voice as much as the lack of an HP gauge it is the controls. Again, it just takes some getting used to. I think it absolutely suits the game. Each weapon feels different. Not sure which you chose, hopefully not the Greatsword or the Lance as those are indeed quite slow and some people just can't get past that. I will say that I hated GS in Freedom, Freedom 2 and even Unite at first. It was just so so sluggish. I was a Long Sword user, and a Hammer user. Wow... once I actually gave it a chance though, and really learned it? There is little as satisfying as timing a GS charge just right.
Then you give the other weapons a fair shake and you realize after a while that each weapon can be so so rewarding in its own way. Solo dual Rajang with a Bow? Amazing feeling. Lance a Fatalis? Fun as hell. Hammer that GODDAMNED UNICORN BASTARD KIRIN?! DIE!! DIEEE! Oh, sorry.

But again, it really just isn't for everyone. The interviews with the designers over the years that I have heard... it really may not seem like it, but there is a lot of care and thought put into the animations all around. The Monsters, the character. I actually am a bit worried for 4 with the new motions it has. Jump attacks, grapples. I hope they pull it off. This game just isn't a fast game, it isn't as quick and fluid as PSO or God Eater Burst. You get punished for spamming combos for long.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound like its last defender. I have long tried to get plenty of my friends to enjoy it as much as I do. It just doesn't work. =( Those are my two cents about your initial irks/impressions is all.
It's hard to explain. There's a sense of achievement when you study a monster's patterns and can anticipate a monster's attacks and beat the living shit out of it and then turn it into a fashionable coat maybe?
The demo doesn't have any of the character progression, but the combat isn't for everyone. There are agile weapons though, and as you wear the monsters down, their are indications as they come close to dying.
I just, for example, love the big monsters you fight in Demon/Dark Souls, tons of weapon variation, difficult to start, etc... this just... is not that. Really disappointed in the graphics too, you look like you're skating since the shadows dont touch your feet, whole game feels 5 years old.
I tried the easy monster with hammer, and then with bow.
Does it matter where you strike the monster? The hit animation was identical whether I'd hit the monster in the face or the ass. It just felt very unsophisticated.
Certain body parts are more resistant to damage on certain body parts. A monster with hard spines on its tail might take less damage as you land hits on the tail for example (and you can sever tails, like some monsters in dark souls). Repeated strikes on certain body parts eventually show damage and hinder abilities. Claws crack, wings rip, spines shatter and so on. Also, landing blunt attacks (hammers, shield bashes, and some others) on their heads you can eventually daze them for extra time to land free attacks. I don't remember large monsters in dark souls having different hit animations when you stab them though, but I've never played demon souls.
I think that is entirely fair. It absolutely isn't D Souls. It is just too dated. I think the only reason I AM excited about the graphics is because I stared at PSP graphics for roughly 800 hours and then got... a Wii release. I was even way more excited to play the Japanese up-res of Portable 3rd than I should have been. I think that graphical criticism is entirely fair. This is a 3DS title upgraded to 1080. The series has never seen much success on consoles, and really only gained its huge following once it hit PSP. So it just doesn't have the same level of shine. It's a little guy.
All that said, I couldn't be more excited to play it in 1080! I plan on putting hundreds and hundreds of hours into the game. Warts and all.
MH weapons are actually pretty varied with a ton of depth. yeah DS has a bunch of weapon types but moveset isnt big as MH's.
then theres skills made from +skill points which give you abilities and shit. having a hard time dodging enough? get evade distance. like hammer's supercharge? get a skill to lower the charge time
thats where the addictive part comes because you just wanna slay a bunch of shit to build armor sets that give you skills that adjust to your playstyle.
then you play with 3 other dudes and try to be credit to team
i think once you get controls down you'll understand why it's set up like that and why it works
yes monsters have weakpoints and they are pretty importantDoes it matter where you strike the monster? The hit animation was identical whether I'd hit the monster in the face or the ass. It just felt very unsophisticated.
they also have parts that can break or be cut off and debilitate the monster accordingly.
i might be wrong on this but also your weapons can bounce off if you hit a non-weakzone, theres subtle telltale signs of whats effective or whats not and thats part of learning the monster
better graphics are always welcomed though, MH's arent bad though
tldr BITCHES GET STITCHES MAN UP
(also sword and shield is a pretty fast and easy to pick up weapon if you're feeling slow. dual swords is also fast but with less defensive potential. then its longsword, switch axe, hammer, lances, and then greatsword. see whats the perfect speed for you)
