Eh, MMOs these days are all sorta shady to some extent (not that I am defending this mind you). If I look at the recent ones I've played (SW:TOR, Tera, B&S) they've all done stuff that pissed off the player base. Some worse that others, some less. People bitched, left, etc but the games endure to those that like it. BDO won't be any different. Games like this really give the player the power because if you don't like it, don't play it.
Jesus this Rubber banding is horrible. I can't even play this shit right now.
Which tends to lead to having no games one would want to play in this genre. Simply going out quietly isn't really the way to go, and while some people obviously go about bitching the wrong way, devs being hardline about everything for the sake of vision or whatever is how you turn a potentially good game into yet another high turnover MMO.Games like this really give the player the power because if you don't like it, don't play it.
Not diving too deep into the money generation aspects, I've been of the mind that too many of these games overprice vanity options, ultimately hoping for those whales content to play virtual dress up. How much more could they get they lowered prices to more manageable values or even made "fair" in-game acquisition a thing? Harder to say, but in games like Rift or GW2, it's not hard to see RMT or power players manipulating even those options simply because your average player can't play enough to keep up with the Joneses.
BDO:
Armor + head + back: $22
Armor + head + weapon + sub weapon: $32
B&S:
Armor + head: $20 (no back)
Weapon: $12
Armor + head + weapon: $32
Tera:
Armor: $10 ~15 *For the shitty versions, the HQ skins are in rng boxes
Head: $4 ~8
Back: $4 ~15
*Cape: $10
Weapon: $9~10 *For the shitty versions, the HQ skins are in rng boxes
Armor + Head + Cape: $24 ~33
Armor + Head + Cape + Weapon: $33 ~43
GW2 isn't apples to apples with account bound and not being a full mmo, but they are all piece meal for each slot and works out similarly.
B&S and Tera are both f2p.
Tera was originally a B2P and sub based game. Can't remember if they had cash shop then or not.
Relevant: Still can't figure out how to node -_-;

It did. Also continued the sub after F2P.
Buy in or not matters not. Only debate is if required sub or no.
I fully expect convenience/time items in cash shop in any F2P game. Resets/exp/gold boosts/etc. Other things for people to purchase in shop and sell to players for in game gold also. Better than RMT, and its always for such a paltry amount that you'd have to spends thousands to generate the same amount of in game currency than an end game player whips out on a whim.
B2P w/o sub = F2P w/o sub. People think because they had to spend something, that they are some special snowflake and are playing a kiss my ass box + sub game.
Does anyone know how to set BDO to low power setting while afking? There was a brief guide at the start of the game for it, but I can't seem to get it to work now.
2 ways,
1. Enery saving box checked on Graphic setting, when you go afk and it goes to screen saver mode it will be lower power setting.
2. Windowed mode, press ctrl and minimize the game, it will prompt you to pick minimize resources setting, confirm then done. To get back to the game just click from the tray icon.
Here's my discord if anyone wants to chat while playing. This might make it easier to get everyone into the guild if you are playing on Orwen.

The crafting/knowledge system is way too fun lol. I'm 48+ hours in and still lv19, many of those levels I got from fishing/crafting/gathering lol. And I have like 2m+ in the bank, it's not that much b/c at higher levels they just throw money at you for getting lv30/40/50, but all of those was from trading/crafting.
