I saw it last weekend.
It was not a good film, but I still had fun. I knew the terrible reviews going into it, so my expectations were pretty low. About the best thing I can say it that I liked it better than most of the reviews did, which isn't saying much. It was about what I expected - it had some pretty cool special effects, a couple of fun action sequences, some fun call backs, a couple of witty lines, but for the most part it was an unnecessary sequel to a movie that's remembered not for the quality of the film, but for the fun of it. The movie suffers from a whole number of unnecessary stereotype characters (looking at you, Mr. African Warlord With a Heart of Gold and Mr. Government Beancounter Dork), some over-the-top stupid plot developments, and an extremely predictable plot (there was one surprising death, actually). It also takes some of the elements of the first one and ratchets them up a notch for no good reason. What's more exciting than a car load of kids in danger? I know! A school bus full of kids in danger! The actors that came back (which was just about everyone except Will Smith) did seem to be having fun, and may have been aware of what they were doing.
I'm not disappointed that I spent $9.50 on it, plus beer and pizza costs, but part of that was tempered by the knowledge I was seeing a bad movie. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen in a theater (Highlander 2 will probably always hold that title for me), but it's a lot closer to the worst than the best. The first Independence Day is one of those movies (along with Shawshank, Die Hard, and Rounders) that if I'm flipping channels and come across it, I will probably end up watching the rest of the film. Independence Day: Resurgence is a movie I will probably never think of watching again.

Sweaty Dick Punching Enthusiast
This movie was so god awful; I will never get that 90+ minutes of my life back.
Fuck Fox.

I got to see it for free so I was satisfied with what I spent for it.
The end really made it seem like a two hour commercial for Independence Day 3.

Definately doesnt have the same good feel as the 1st one and some of the things they added were unnecessary or somewhat cliche to say the least. Wasnt disappointed tho will say that much tho its clear theyre setting up for a 3rd movie at the end. Sadly its the problem with sequels very hard to get one that can surpass the 1st movie expecially since that one was a really good movie. Dunno if they can do better with the 3rd tho if they do go with it.

Once they lose a ton of money on it, they won't want to make a third one...
edit: yes, I know, they probably won't *lose* money, but they won't make much either (not in comparison to other sequels like the marvel movies, or avatar, or star wars)

Been Here Longer Than you
I just watched this last night. I literally texted about 10 people, as it ended, telling them it was the worst movie I've ever watched.
I would be embarrassed, if I was the producer or director.
