I thought there was a dedicated M/KB UI?
I thought there was a dedicated M/KB UI?
I ended up getting a refund for my PC version (gotta give Origins props for that). This is probably the first cross platform game where I'll be getting the console version for seeing as how there's going to be little to no mod support for DAI + inferior UI.
destiny has better dances
So I've played on PC through the tutorial and a while in Haven. Quick impressions:
• Game is fun; enjoying myself despite what you read below. Negative confirmation bias, etc.
• The lack of a TAB hit to display all targetables on the screen is killing me. I may just make a G-key macro to spam V for me while I'm in the field. Half the time I hear the chime, I can't even find the damn thing without jumping all over the place. It's not an immersion issue really unless our hero is the bastard offspring of a bat.
• It may change later, but if I start over, I would definitely do a Mage or Archer. Melee is a pain in the ass thus far on PC.
• Whoever thought all book / scroll text should be in all caps should be caned; it's driving me crazy
• The PC UI is not as bad as some make it out to be, but it's not great. The biggest issue is combat; I ended up just missing attacks pretty often because A) there's no auto attack, and B) holding left mouse / R to autoattack impedes my movement ability. So I end up in this stutter dance where I chase something down, attack, it moves, I miss a couple times, reposition, etc. Thus far it hasn't been bad, but chasing down ranged mobs is annoying. Maybe will get used to it.
• LET US KEY MAP EXTRA MOUSE BUTTONS! Holy shit, this is just ridiculous; fucking Origins can map to all 8 billion of my Naga mouse buttons, but I want to move jump to the first on the left of my left click? No chance. I have jump set to C right now and it's awkward as hell. I may just move it back to Spacebar and move the Pause button since I don't use it that often.
• Follower UI is terrible. I think I told the Mage and Archer to GTFO during the first boss fight about 35x. They have zero melee abilities and were well within range where I placed them; why do you keep moving back in to get raped?
• Loot with F on PC; clicking will drive you crazy.
• No spoilers, but I'm finding the moral/favor choices are more ambiguous. I generally try to play the nice guy in these games. There were 2-3x where I thought I had selected an accommodating choice, but my character said something more aggressive than the choice indicated and I lost favor. Maybe I'm crazy.
Thinking about a gamepad, but I will likely try to do my first playthrough on KB/M and see how it goes.
I was reading through some of the dev interviews where they mentioned that "If you aren't supposed to be in an area yet, and you stumble into it, it will be made clear to you that you aren't high enough level for it." I learned this lesson when I was strolling through the Hinterlands and came across a giant dragon..Varric made a smartass comment, and then BOOM the dragon oneshots my party. lol
Yeah, I regret making a 2hander melee person. Just sooo freaking slow and the damage doesn't seem worth it. Gunna reroll something else. I tried gamepad but didn't like it.
Unlike the 2nd game, I'm having issues trying to figure out who I want in my party as I enjoy all the PCs this time. :/ can't freakin decide
I didnt get past first part of game on my 2 hander. Had to go to work.
I am going to reroll a dual wield rogue or shield and sword. I was on Hard mode.
Anyone else find it odd for this to be the first character creator without no black hair color. I need to redo my Character, he looks like a mexican Jalen Rose. Human characters always end up looking funky in these games, is why I just make a Khajit.
I did not like dual wield rogue and rerolled mage 2h in. Much more my style
I just hope with the next game they use a completely different engine. This still feels like DA:O but updated only a little bit.
So Warrior's closing speed at start is terrible. Immediately unlocked the bull dash ability to amend this. First fight after unlocking I trigger it from way off and my guy dashes forward sper fast.

That is until I hit the mobs, blow the fuck through them, then continue for like another 50 yards up the mountain. Apparently you need to hit again to stop haha.
Only got to play for 30 mins. (hurray 2 jobs) but is there a button on PC (xbox controller) to go to the area map? Other than having to hit back to go to the menu first? Seems silly. Maybe I can re-map? Idk Won't be able to proper sit down with the game til Thurs/Fri
I'm pretty upset that they've managed to make Frostbite 3 run this badly on PC
I'm liking sword and board more. If you're a warrior. Get the roll ability. great way to close up space/escape. and if you're wondering how to respec, there's a gold buy/sell thing next to where you create armor in haven. You can buy an amulet there that resets everything for 365 gold
I don't know how I feel about the the new game engine. Everything looks like it has a layer of grease on it. (unless it's just my game) and my pc should be able to handle the game but I've had to turn everything on low (from medium settings) in order to play it better.
yeah, but it isn't supposed to. compare it to Battlefield 4 which runs the same engine.
multiplayer seems pretty buggy atm. sometimes camera gets locked in place which is frustrating.
also there's this...
Any console peasant's with any comments on controls? based on Wulfgangs comment's I am starting to think I should switch my pre-order from PC to PS4.
I'm not worried about the requirements but I am concerned about the control/U.I issues, I have an xbox360 controller for my PC and I do use it on certain games, does controller fix most of the issues?
Thanks
EU btw so game isn't out until Friday
I wanna play this game so bad. I loved the first one!
From what I've read, the controller makes it just like playing on the console for the most part and alleviates many of the issues. I'm sticking it out with KB/M; it gets better as you go along. I don't even miss the "click + run to loot" thing anymore and have gotten fairly proficient and just strolling up and looting with F. Not there yet on melee combat though; feel like this would be 5x easier with a controller.
