You can definitely choose to be female, and that's a very strange bug haha.

Did you patch? I thought the dialog-broken-fix-by-potion bug was fixed in the Dec 15 patch.
Also you can totally choose female during character creation. 4 races, 2 sexes each.
Fucking weird, and yeah patched. I'm early so may start over as is.
My experience is (currently) limited to playing in bursts over at a friend's; if you want an escape option on mage get Fade Step in the ice tree (and get the upgrade so it actually does damage). I made a 2h warrior type but I ended up playing mage party members more often. Static Cage at the end of lightning tree is pretty good (with upgrade).
I played 2 but not 1 and the game feels a little clunky to me as well, though I played stabby stabby in 2 so might be my own fault for not going with what I "know". I just wanted the juxtaposition of a dwarf with a big-ass sword.
Origins has by far the most disjointed combat of the three. I haven't touched Rogue yet but if you're looking for mobility on Warrior, Combat Roll and Charging Bull are what you're after. On Mages you'd definitely want Fade Step.
Origins combat is the most familiar to me but it's not like I was expecting anything related to Origins from gameplay since I played 2 and knew they definitely wouldn't go back. Level 9 and fighting feels a little better, except...are there abilities that just don't work? I picked up the passive storm cloud one but I haven't seen it actually proc once, and the cooldown reduction one doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a shortlist of shit abilities that don't work/are useless?
Fade Step is nice but the CD to far too long (it's a start though, wish there was hate reduction on it too), but Static Cage is the shit. I'm kinda getting back into the groove with more skills since low level mage is the worst.
Also fuck me the inventory system is a fucking MESS. Why aren't there mods yet to fix this?! Along with that, modding weapons and armour seems messy as well to the point where I figured I just wouldn't bother with it. But anyway to make sense of it?
And while I'm glad I can explore to hell with the collision in this game. I can't climb on shit I should be able to climb and finding shards has become the bane of my existence.
I have modded/created my main character's weapons twice. Both times I made them so strong that I used them over everything else for a long long time. Still using my 2nd one and no unique weapon I ever find comes anywhere close to it.
Just picked this up, have no Dragon Age experience and no clue what class to play. Found a dual dagger tempest video and it looked cool, might do that.
I have a hard time playing a game that could last 100 hours, I get bored quick or play other things. I didn't make it far in skyrim for example. I need a class that stays engaging throughout, I saw a video of a 2hander and it looked cool, but something that can solo (cause setting up followers seems annoying) would probably be more fun for me. Any suggestions?
Probably going to go Rogue since its the best of both worlds.
Crafted weapons will pretty much always be the best you can use. My crafted Balanced Greatsword has an Attack rating of 330ish and has 10% chance to trigger Chain Lightning at 100% weapon damage, along with almost 30% crit rate between the sword itself and the grip I'm using, and it heals 14% on kills. No unique/rare greatsword can compare.
Modifying weapons and armor confused me as well at first, but it ends up being pretty straightforward. Armors are a little easier to explain. At the bottom of the schematic list for every armor type you'll see a bunch of schematics for _______ Arms and ________ Legs. When you make those they can be slotted into any armor with empty Arm/Leg slots. Some of them can really provide significant boosts to ranged/melee/magic defense. Almost any armor you craft will have empty Arm/Leg slots (the only exceptions off the top of my head are the Warden armors and the Dragon armors). Weapons are the same deal except most categories have more than one weapon type in them (Axes/Swords, Greataxe/Greatsword, Bow/Dagger) so you've got to pay attention to what type of thing you're crafting.
Edit: 2H warrior can be pretty beast, especially if you take the Reaver specialization later on. I don't really play Rogue but I've seen Sera use Flask of Lightning from the Tempest tree and it's hilarious. I think all the classes are pretty fun.
Reaver, Knight Enchanter, and any Rogue spec can break the game wide the fuck open. A tank controlled by the player can also be effectively invincible with proper use of Shield Wall.
Yeah Idk about Rogue but if you are looking for more solo Warrior -> Reaver and Mage -> Knight Enchanter seem to be the best way to go for those classes.
Sword + Shield Champion is also invincible. Even the AI is unkillable with that setup. It's idiotproof, albeit pretty slow compared to other builds.
Honestly I think Templar is pretty easily the worst/weakest specialization out of all of them, but dropping those 8k Wrath of Heavens on demons is always fun.
Looks like I'm going Knight Enchanter, though Rift Mage final skill seems right up my alley (I like blowing shit up). Though I might go with the advice here for AI and preferred skill settings. My guys are living longer generally but I'm at a point where I'm mostly just taking Warriors because everyone else is weak or retarded. Any more advice for setting up AI that wasn't covered?
The Templar talent that gives the entire party a chance to weaken on hit paired up with the Rift Mage spec (Solas) is nasty, but not quite a game breaking level.
I think you generally want everyone set up so that they're set to Follow themselves which helps mitigate some of the dumb from ranged characters. Beyond that make sure whoever you're using as a tank has all their taunting skills set to Preferred (War Cry, Challenge). Later on in the game you can start finding some Fade-touched materials that add Guard on hit which is useful for Rogues/Mages who can't otherwise generate Guard.
I'm terrified to start this with only 2 weeks left. $38 on PSN is so tempting...
Wheres the best place to get Fade Touched Obsidian? I need to put on hit guard on people, I initially used it wrong and put it on tank stuff because I thought it gave guard for getting hit![]()
Just picked this up for Christmas, literally never played a Dragon Age before.. picked Rogue Archer. It feels..kinda pew pew boring like most archer classes, but even a few hours in and I can already tell the game is massive D: Any tips to enjoy it further?
Tough it out on the story missions until you unlock Skyhold and can get specializations. Combat will get much more interesting at that point.
