I have the hidden blades on all my weapons and the +3 guard on all my armor. its so broken lol. level 23 dragons die in 1 minute

I'm playing a mage but I feel like I never get to use her because the tank AI sucks balls so I'm forced into always playing Cassandra/Blackwall so I don't die horribly in most fights. Playing on nightmare difficulty. My go to method is My mage/Solas/Varric and they just ranged pick things down while I knock down and kite shit on Cassandra. Mostly do this because I am far too lazy to keep going back to camps to refill my potions so I try to take the least amount of damage in fights as possible.

Also I think I'm close to the end of the game but I have yet to get a single high quality mage armor. Heavy and Medium armor raining from the skies though.

I agree with the AI comment when I have switched to play as mage my other party members derp a lot.

The threat reduction passive in the Spirit tree is pretty helpful in that regard. I haven't had significant issues with tanks holding aggro but I'm also a Warrior so even if they were I have my own Guard to fall back on.

The problem I've encountered is that the Tank AIs dont even try. I'll give it a go on my mage every so often and of course my mage ends up tanking everything. Swap over to Cassandra and both of the taunts are off cooldown. Like dude AI are you even trying?

Set them to Preferred in the AI tactics menu if they aren't already.

IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG SINCE WE CHATTED IT UP!

Anyway, this post (and most of the thread really) makes me glad I decided to roll a slightly tankish Warrior for my inquisitor. Because of the hybrid nature of my character (1h reaver tank), it took longer to get to be effective at both dealing damage and taking it well. Fortunately, gear in this game is ridiculous and closed the gap well enough. At this point in the game, hardly anything ever gets through my guard so I can just run around doing reaver things. Ring of Pain also feels especially useful now too since I draw everything into it.

For tanks make war cry and challenge preferred and disable any stupid shit they don't need to build guard, keep threat, or that will significantly hurt their dps.

For mages barrier should be preferred, and spirit blade for Vivi's KE (and set her to follow the tank).

All that and the right specs helped keep things in order for me. Using auto-level on tanks is just a big no-no. The game sucks at making them functional on its own.

I'm in the process of trying to give Vivi the boot from the inquisition. I haven't tried to appease her with my responses, just answering how I feel is right (MAGES NEED TO BE FREE) and we hate each other. I'd be glad if I got the option to tell her to GTFO.

Vivi's dps is crazy good plus she's like unkillable. I could never hate her! She's like the ultimate red mage.

Yeah, originally I was using solas as my barrier/protective mage and cassandra as my tank.... blackwall/vivi are so much better ://

I think I'm a bit too far gone now to mend things haha I denied doing a quest for her and now shes fucking with me on purpose. And although its silly, I'm okay with playing with Solas just because RP wise I can't stand her.

Solas as a Rift Mage is pretty useful if you have the right spells/traps for Pull of the Abyss. Most of the Rift Mage stuff is useful and I set those to priority and watch Solas do work. There aren't many characters I like in DA:I, but Varric, Dorian, Blackwall and Iron Bull are great. Sera and Vivienne depending on the situation and the others are bore. Would've thought at this point you could've had the greatest hits from DA1 and 2 but not really.
