So. I think I've gotten past the first major.. plot thingie in the game.
I think the story mission was called Heart Shall Burn or something.
I have remained unspoilered about this game but people keep giggling and joyously dancing around like they have the best kept secret on something that is going to happen to my game. It is making me nervous. I am trying to beat this game quickly because I feel someone is going to just burst and tell me.

I do want to write down my opinions now that I've made it this far in the game. I find that I like looking back at my prior impressions and seeing how the characters developed and changed along the way.
Current opinions on characters
Spoiler: show
I am really digging the story. I feel though I want to beat this game so I can replay the game as another race/class/etc.
Have I recruited all the available extra party members?
My standard party is Solas, Blackwall, and Cole. Sometimes I switch Cole with Iron Bull.
I find your post hilarious.
There are three characters for each class. Cassandra/Blackwall/Iron Bull, Varric/Sera/Cole, Solas/Dorian/Vivienne.
I hated Lelianna and murdered her for fun, but when she showed up in DA2 and DAI I tried to give her another chance. Still did not like her. She seemed even less genuine than she did in DAO. I wanted the Inquisitor to murder her while she was talking shit on the Warden for murdering her. Do you not understand how terrible it would be for the religious leaders of this world to have access to that sort of power? No, because you are also a religious nut. Stay dead and stop bothering me. Sucks when they take your least favorite character and force them into another game. Too much Lelianna ranting? Yeah, but I'm still bitter over her beheading being retconned.
I also did not like Solas, which is apparently a fan favorite.
Solas isn't interesting at all unless you know what's going on. Then he's more intriguing but in terms of overall characters he still isn't great when compared to people like Iron Bull or Dorian (best new characters) hell even Blackwall has more to him than it seems. I like they were subtle but it didn't make for an interesting character.
It's pretty big, I suggest doing all of the main story quest at the recommended level, It's important that you do all the companion quest and all the special companion dialogue before the final mission (It tell you in the description that you can still play after doing it but some things will change after)
How can you be hating on Sera? Throw her and Iron Bull in your party and watch the hilarity. My God. She's fucking awesome lol.
My least favorites are Solas and Blackwall. I just can't get into those two at all.
Blackwall and Solas are alot more interesting once you understand what's really going on with those characters.
I wouldn't call them subpar, just not up to the amazing level of some of the other characters in the game.
So.....subpar![]()
? I don't think my post was supposed to be funny I was trying to be serious!
Sweet. I didn't miss anyone lol. I started getting worried because I'm trying to advance the story.
I dunno. Solas is incredibly interesting to me.
Does it matter that I'm an elf? A lot of his dialogue involves the Dalish lore and we talk about the Fade and history. It's all fascinating to me. I guess I got sucked up into the whole lore drops he does and I love it to bits. He's the only loyalty/special mission I've done so far.
Shit man. I mean. Solas started out like a prick elf when I started, yelling at me because I was Dalish. But he apologizes later and explains that the Dalish wronged him and it was wrong of him to simply lump me in with a group of people. He freely admits he made a lot of mistakes and misjudged a lot of things. So much better than Sera who has nothing but a racist fucking attitude when I talk to her. God I can't stand having to put up with her shit about how I'm a lousy prick elf. So tempted to remove her ass from my fucking Inquisition. Yes. My fucking Inquisition.
I imagine the Sera disapproves meter constantly popping up is probably not helping her case with me. Maybe next time I'll play as a human and side with the Templars to see how different Elf + mages went.
To be perfectly honest, everyone has a :/ Dalish reaction to varying degrees. The only person who hasn't gotten over it is Sera who acts like I'm an infection.
Edit: Very likely, my opinion of Solas is directly related to the Romancing. I imagine if he wasn't so open about his thoughts/opinions/stories he would be a very bland character who would be forgettable.

That being said, I really only hate Vivienne and Sera. All the other characters vary on the levels of cool to interesting. Cassandra was the surprise for me. I guess I didn't expect to like her. Same way with Solas too. I didn't expect to like him after the whole catfight about being Dalish and the whole "YOUR PEOPLE" "MY PEOPLE" yell match.
Edit2: I still haven't beaten the game. Idk if I'm at the middle or not but I would assume I'm definitely not near the ending since I just got to Skyhold?
Your post was funny because of story related items that you have yet to see. Check back after you finish the game and you'll understand. But I'd recommend leaving the thread now before someone drops a spoiler on you sooner or later!
I guess this is why people are giggling and acting like high school girls who know something you don't.
I AM RUNNING FROM THIS THREAD. I WILL SEE YOU ALL WHEN I FINISH.
I left it vague because I'm pretty sure you haven't done the quests that make it hilarious. Come back when you finish the main quests and let me know if you know what I was referring to then, lol.
That is, in part, what I don't like about him. He rubs me the wrong way in the same way that the codex in Final Fantasy 13 did. It seems like he's just a way for the developers to dump information onto the player instead of making it come up organically in the story. It makes sense that he, as an fade elf guy, would know a lot about the Dalish lore, but it feels...blah. I get why they did it, but Solas just falls flat as a character. A whole lot of potential, but it just didn't do it for me.
And in many ways, he is almost identical to Sera. If you give answers that he doesn't like, he is pissy and stubborn. He's willing to change his mind about very few things. Sera is willing to accept the Inquisitor, but she's not big on elves that act like a stereotype. Solas is, in many ways, the same. He's more intelligent and articulate about it, but differing politics aside, the two are very similar in how they react within the world with respect to those politics.
Sera would be fine if she wasn't a fucking sociopath. It's cool that she likes helping the little guy but she's so narrow minded most of what she does ends up doing more harm than good.
Solas is definitely more interesting once you romance him (he only romances Dalish females) and once you get to the endgame it's a lot better. Most of my complaints about him as a character come from if you don't romance him then there's nothing much to the character at all. I agree about Sera completely, though she would be cool to take if you had a crazy ass character who didn't give a fuck (though even if you don't she'll still disapprove from some odd choices).
Everyone hates on the Dalish, so that's why playing a Dalish mage is so much fun because you get twice as much persecution. Personally I liked siding with the templars more because goddamn mages are such whiny bitches but the mage side of the story was more interesting to me. Templar side was a common rehash that you can experience even without picking it.
I agree with siding with the templars being the better choice, unfortunately since I finished getting my platinum trophy I wanted to try speed running the game, and I feel the mage side is quite a bit shorter then the templar side D:
