Almost all of the mods for the game are mostly cosmetic/character creation tweaks, Frostbite engine just generally doesn't play well with modding and for the most part I think the game looks good enough as is. Alot of them have issues with some of the DLC (specifically Trespasser, but a good enough portion are compatible at this point you can work around it), so you need to be careful with which ones you use.

Only thing with my mod list is the skin mod up top doesn't work with Black Emporium (no skin mods do, the game freezes on the load screen with them installed), and I have to keep an alternate mod patch without it installed if I ever need to go in there. i.e. quit the game, swap the files, do whatever I need in there, save and exit, and swap the files again.

And yes, Skip the Fade is definitely not for a first playthru, but for additional runs thru the game that shit is locked in tight because fuck that entire part of the game once you've experienced the story from it. And yeah the mod automatically gives you all stat points, xp, grimoire entries, etc.

Hmm, a mod to increase party banter? That I definitely want.

Also, here's the screenshot I really wanted to share. Such majestic, much wow. (Huge Warning)
    Spoiler: show

Edit : all this crap can be found on the nexus - http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/?, and you need to grab DAO Mod Manager from there to properly install stuff. Graphic stuff I'm leaving out since that's personal preference and you can just dig around on the site.

Gameplay Things (take a look for personal preference, but I'd go with all these being most important)

    Advanced Tactics
    Combat Tweaks
    Lock Bash
    Faster Combat
Forced Deathblows (I use Lieutenant Plus)
    Skip the Fade

Fixes for various bugs (not really needed, since it's mostly random stuff)

    Awakening Rune Fixes
    Baroness Reward Fix
    Awakening endgame cutscene fixes
Joining ritual fix for Awakening companions
    Plus Healing Received Fix
    Unobtainable item BUGFIX
    Awakening Silverite Mines Bugfix
    ZDF Dialog Fix
Dialog Tweaks .93a (I don't think this one is still on the Nexus, but you can hunt it down with google)
    No Helmet Hack

    New Gear

    Grey Wardens of Ferelden
    Phoenix Armory
Wings of Velvet (it's OP as fuck and doesn't fit lorewise at all, but if you want your healer to be a god, it's fun times)

If you can't find any of this shit I got the zip files on my hard drive and can hook you up
humm didn't even think of modding the game, cheers m8. with Tyranny dusted time to ice this trilogy

Completely forgot the game had an easy mode for story focus. I just deleted my female elf mage and remade as a male to romance Dorian. I was going to use the mod to do it on a female but then you don't get the voiced scenes for your Inquisitor which kills it. I'll suffer through playing a male character for Dorian. (Pet peeve of mine. I really don't like playing the opposite gender.)

Also.. he made a remark to my female Quizzy that I'm not sure what he meant. Something along the line of "I like to watch you walk away" when ending a conversation. Is he staring at my ass?! Little flirty tease.

Not really DA3 related but the lead designer for DA2 explained today why DA2's expasion "Exalted March" was never released. I thought it was interesting, anyway.

Well, I'm doing my Nightmare trophy playthrough and doing all the dlc for the first time too and I just found out I'm not really able to do the Jaws of Hakkon final boss fight yet. I get my ass kicked on the very first wave of minions and haven't been able to get the dude lower than 75% health. And even then he still has a whole not her stage to get through. So I had to lose all my progress on the last dungeon and reload. So now I'll either try getting through the Descent dlc or maybe What Pride had Wrought.

I'm currently lv 23 swishy swishy sword mage.

That fight is actually kind of tricky. I remember that one giving me trouble even though I was capped with all skills/passives learned from duping Amulets of Power.

If you're interested in achievements make sure you hit all the snow fire balloon things before you fight the boss, because once the dungeon's over they all disappear.

I downloaded Jaws after I already had the nightmare trophy. I also got really frustrated with that fight as everything else I had done was actually pretty easy, even on nightmare. In the end I said screw it and bumped the difficulty down because after beating the game difficulty no longer mattered.

If I remember right on nightmare he does a lot of stuff that was pretty cheesy and it was very much luck based.

Yeah, everything in Hakkon just seemed so jacked. Enemies were way stronger than other enemies the same level in the game, most of the rifts were damn near impossible, and I don't think I got a single item that was better than I already had. I started Descent and the enemies there were higher level but we're still waaaay easier. Descent seems buggy as shit though. So much shit. Everyone got stuck to the floor and I had to jump to move, a lever didn't open a door when it should have, I tried to claim an area and it would not actually let me do it, it would just do the motion and sfx until I got bored of it. And when I warped back to camp, my party members just ran around all crazy everywhere. Yeah, I'll be keeping lots of extra save files.

The regular enemies in Haakon weren't too bad for me, the "problem" with that area is it scales to your character level when you first arrive, unlike every other zone in the game. So if you're already high level and decked out, everything in there is gonna be stacked too. I recall there being some decent items in that zone too but the Tier 4 metal was all I really cared about.

Origins Awakening and Hawke DOWN time to Inquisite

II doesn't really deserve the reputation it has. the reused assets and simplified combat are annoying and the level design is aaaawwwwfuuulll but the story is p solid (mama getting Frankenstein'd was totally grimdark and Anders going Cersei all over everyone's ass had me like :0) and sassy Hawke is best Hawke. plus the companions are great, Varric is #1 dwarf of all time, Merrill is hilarious and her Welsh accent oddly endearing, and Aveline is a straight up Garrus-bro type bro. the broest of bros.

that said i did almost cry entering the open landscape of the Hinterlands in Inquisition and seeing there was not a corridor to be found.

also Frostbite is beautiful. so beautiful.

2 kinda does deserve it, consider most who played did so coming off DA:O (which they probably loved cuz fuck that game is awesome) and didn't exactly have DA:I to wash the shitty taste out.

You are totally right about the story, just a shame you have to suffer through a lot of questionable gameplay for quite a while before combat even becomes remotely engaging.

For what it's worth, the DLC for DA2 addressed a lot of the issues people had with asset reuse and encounter design. It also hooks into DA:I.

Also the Champion armor sets are still the coolest armor designs in the franchise.

two questions party people, is the DLC intended to be done after the main campaign or mid-run? and for them that have crunched the numbers, as far as mage specializations go knight-enchanter is obviously tank of tanks but DPS-wise does necromancer or rift come out on top?

Trespasser is obviously to be done post main campaign, the rest it doesn't really matter too much. I'd recommend doing them prior to beating the game (since you'll be locked out of some things post main campaign), but only if you're using the Even Ground trial (which I'd recommend for the entire playthru tbh) to prevent you from grossly out leveling the content.

As for your second question, Necromancer is better for group dps, Rift for single target.

Knight Enchanter is pretty OP regardless of what role you want to fill, honestly. Even after they nerfed Spirit Blade.

Unless you're specifically maining a Knight Enchanter (since the AI isn't really smart enough to do it itself), a support/debuff focused Viv is probably the best Mage to use.

Reaver + any of the Rogue specs (though Artificer is only good if player controlled) by themselves is crazy damage output with proper debuff support from the tank + support Mage
