Look, we don't need refs at all. We just need players and coaches to start following the rules and bring their mothers to the games. If they break the rules they get bent over the knee.

i hope nearly every team finishes 8-8, and we have this huge jumbled mess of odd outcomes and tie-breakers -- then it's just like a lottery for the playoffs, and the regular season was just punishment for the teams/injured players. The season will then only exist so the refs excel in their fantasy leagues

If you guys think this is acceptable behavior and doesn't affect the integrity of the game then I don't know what else to say. Coaches and players shouldn't need daddy figures to tell them what's right and wrong. Refs aren't intended to keep people from going apeshit - they're intended to handle ambiguous calls and mistakes (as well as the occasional intentionally bullshit action).
