    That would be a legitimate grievance with 1.0 that should have been dealt with, I can only assume they didn't because the market wards themselves were a catastrophically shit concept to begin with (allowing more retainers in the wards didn't solve anything, nor did connecting the 3 wards in a way that was not at all convenient of effective).

    No one cares about your pretty stall, no one cares about what your retainer looks like, no one likes having to run back and forth from their retainer to the edge of the zone to check prices.

    Lack of an AH is one of the big "if it ain't broke, let's break it for shits and giggles" things from XI, I can only assume the system was designed around retainers so much that to implement a working AH in 1.0 would have been considered too much trouble.

    I could live without the AH since V1 was planned to be trashed and as you say it would be too much effort to create one. But they really could have applied more band-aids like opening up extra wards. Would it be too much trouble to open up battlecraft 2 etc? for each category. Probably not, unless the servers running the Ul'dah wards just can't handle any more load. I don't like stalls because you have to login every day to keep it, but I suppose if it weren't for that irritation I'd not be able to get in the wards at all. Problem is I don't play every day so I have to go through this bullshit of trying to find a spot almost every time I login if I want to sell shit.

    I can't imagine how pissed people who weren't able to get a spot in the wards post-merge were.

    I've had the same retainer in the same spot since the merge and haven't dared move it, someone else put theirs right on top of mine (which was annoying) and I wouldn't even risk despawning it for a moment just to move it 2 feet to the right >_>


    edit: I remember something in some patch notes at one point about retainers auto-despawning if left unattended for a week or something like that, I don't think it was ever implemented properly

    Considering all the issues Ul'dah has had I'd say that more wards just aren't possible without changing the whole engine.

    If they made the search feature cover all 3 cities it would have gone a long, long way and I don't see why that couldn't have been possible. Color code the retainer-ward search results or stick nation icons next to the names to signify which city they're in.

    At the very least they could have just made 1 merchant ward and had a search/buy NPC for each city in it rather than splitting them across 3 separate zones.

    I know this isn't a general question's thread, but Seph I can give you a solution. Go through the wards, (the most uncommonly used) and check stalls. A lot of people do not stay on top of their stall rentals, and there are generally a few available. This bypasses ward maximum capacity, but it costs 500 gil every 24 hours.

    Well yeah that's what I end up having to do and I did find one this evening eventually, but I already mentioned the problems with that. I don't play every day and it would be a chore to login just to renew a stand. Even that is easy to forget.

    Linking all 3 cities via the same search would have been great. I wonder if anyone even bothers to go into the merchant wards for Gridania and LL. I've not tried to take the risk of setting up shops there. People don't go shopping at the tiny grocery store if there's a big supermarket with way more products next door.

    It's also kinda ridiculous that I can see retainers in wards with nothing up for sale. I thought they'd despawn but clearly not.

    I think both porting characters to beta and discarding all beta progress in retail are very important.

    Porting our characters will allow us to test the (purported?) new crafting system, as well as determine any serious flaws in the fundamental mechanics of the new engine. How are we supposed to fully test out the mannequin system when we all start at LV1? There is a lot more to the game than just battle.

    Furthermore, discarding changes encourages the purpose of a beta, which is experimentation. When you remove long-term consequences, people are more willing to try out things with potentially bad implications (e.g. delivery box shenanigans).

    I applied for the beta with my 3 accounts so hopefully I'll be able to test some spell, input, and movement lag and see just how bad (good?) things look to other people firsthand. I could care less if my data is carried over to retail, betas are first and foremost for testing and to break shit.
