Was really nice for things like non-zerg Kirin and was an amazing tank.
By useless, I mostly mean "why would you opt for using that". The answer is you wouldn't.
not too sure about 75, but BLU was grossly overpowered at lower levels compared to other jobs back in the day..
i suppose it had to do with getting more access to spells and abilities continually compared to any other job in the game.
the fact that a BLU could like solo rank 3 missions back when it was capped was a clear sign of this. i dont think they even needed 2hr.
Headbutt and Bludgeon are both extremely powerful for the level that you get them. Bludgeon's damage is pretty MP efficient too, especially on EM-T where it takes like 50-60% of a mob's HP. Soloing 1-30 on BLU was so freaking easy compared to most jobs, you could one shot VT Gigas Leeches in Qufim at level 18.
Nyzul Isle wasn't hard at 75. He's pretty much right. BLU didn't have a useful niche at 75 and wasn't worth selecting for at any event.
I seem to recall we used one for crowd control / debuffs when doing Dyna-Tav. It was useful but not necessary.
You can level a job to 99 and gear it in a week now. Then, there wasn't really a reason to level and gear BLU aside from if you happened to like it. It had no special place in the game. It made nothing easier.
I remember hitting 60 and subbing THF for some srs damage in wajaom vs. Colibri or w/e with SA(TA) Death Scissors. Bonus points if it caused any kind of skillchain... stuff would just fall over.
Only one with acess to both light and dark AOE sleep on top of decent dmg and stuns and other debuffs made it great in ein. Those lame slow battles of run up ws run away it was SACA cannonballing for more and more often. Multiple dmg types made it boss in that one apollyon zone. Not many people did it but it had alot more hate tools than anyone else for disengaged /nin tanking.

Head Butt was alright, but it wasn't entirely reliable. There was really nothing that would incite the line of thought, "We need [(Job),.*] and BLU". It had reasonable functionality, overwhelming PvP ability, and good solo potential, though.
I tend to use hyperbole while expressing a point. I'm not sure if I want to drop the habit yet. It's usually to my benefit, because it means not having to spend extensive time with specifics a good deal of the time since people will generally follow the train of thought. Then there are times like these when the Blue Mages of the world believe I have staged a war upon them.![]()
BALLISTA!
Seconded with Jem. BLU was useful at certain HNM fights or other events but was obviously not indispensable. Nobody would forego the event if we couldn't get one to come. I seem to recall one of the BLU's I know subbing /PLD and doing well backup tanking at certain events. Just another option.
Oh. I believe there may have actually been a BLU in the mix in certain Einherjar chambers before they changed how linking worked. That was actually mildly useful. Of course, I'm pretty sure there was only really one person that even had BLU reasonably geared in the LS at that time, and they generally preferred going something else. Two bards using harps worked, of course, especially since you were bringing them anyways, but that was pretty much the one situation where I thought, "Yay, a Blue Mage is present!" at 75.
BLU was apeshit crazy midlevels where a SC ending with a CA+Death Scissors or Mandibular Bite would basically OHKO a VT mob. Keeping shit stun locked before BLMs or DRKs learned stun was a godsend especially in the dunes/jungles against goblins. Healing Breeze was also pretty potent. BLU was a solid DD in exp parties all the way up to like level 70ish then they started to wane a bit during merit parties where heavy DDs mostly were picked(this was before BLU was given good DD gear/autorefresh gear.
BLU is by far one of the most broken jobs in ballista ever. Seriously, like 3 months ago my server had a 18-20 player brenner and my BLU/RDM, decked in PDT, VIT, Defense gear with tavnazian taco and protect 3 w/ cocoon had like 1400+ defense and 50% PDT and like +60ish VIT. I was virtually unkillable, heavy DDs were wailing on me for 0's sometimes 2-3 at a time and I would pick them off one by one with a sudden lunge->delta thrust->heavy strike. Anyone that came moderately close to killing me(never happened unless I converted) I'd just Absolute Terror them for 30 seconds while I rebuffed. Setting Disseverment and using Gates of Hades is fun too because you can use those two in conjunction and give them like a 40-45ish DoT that lasts for 5 minutes. When you only have 1300-1500ish HP, that shit adds up quick.
BLU was king in the ashu talif fight. Well maybe not king, but at least shouted for.
Not sure if this is a joke or what. BLU was good for Spike Damage and I remember SA+Cannonballs doing 2k on Sky Gods and 1K on Kirin if you weren't zerging. Hell two BLU's back then CA/lolRam Charge + CA/Cannonball to make a light skillchain for mages to MB.
It wasn't useless, it had it's place at some events... but no not all.
