His opinion post today was pretty interesting. Also dropped a potential hint at upcoming JSE upgrades as well as some guidance on the relative timing of RME updates to other Adoulin content.

we also think we should focus on the adjustments and upgrades to job-specific equipment and Relic/Mythic/Empyrean weapons before focusing on new top-tier content.
"Top tier" content to me means Delve, so it sounds kind of like he wants to adjust RME before Delve part 2 comes out?

Some of our RNG's were using Staff + Potens when we RNG burned bosses.

No idea if it's better or not. I haven't really geared my RNG that well so I just went fuck it and used Aluh or Trailers depending on mob.

I thought it was one of his best posts in a long time. Certainly more informative about the perspective of the developer than these nitpicky item level posts.

every time I read his opinions I really do think he knows what he is talking about. In that sense so far his decision havent let me down and he knows what he is doing. I really do believe he is pushing XI in the right direction. Considering the enmity and def/ atk change they really started to implement very interesting fighting mechanics with delve that arent that easy won without proper prepetation in gear and skill.

I really do like and appreciate his candid posts like this one. My only real problem is that with all this talk about content level influencing their design decisions, how did they not recognize that there was a ginormous content level gap up to the boss tier Delve monsters? I mean, if they intended it to be that way, it would be totally understandable, but then they should just suck it up and tell us that it was intended to be a huge jump, rather than continuously apologizing for the large gap that they themselves knew they were creating when they added Delve without the other interstitial content.

I'm not suggesting that I think the gap is too big. On the contrary, I think it really gave people a wake up call and forced them to really think about strategies and put effort into gear upgrading, and so it was good in many respects. I just wish they would own up to their decision rather than apologizing for it.

I like the gap that is given now, but I can't help but feel that the build up to even qualify for an attempt is just so staggering for anyone that didn't keep their jobs up to date w/ salv 2 gear, or don't have the means to R10+ any of the delve gear can't help but feel a bit demoralized, I have a friend that feels they'd be better off if they just quit rather try and get themselves up to speed with the current norm. Because there is a lot that they missed out on and struggle to even do with their play times. So them wanting to bring out low man / small group content to give gear to bridge the gap to delve mega boss's sounds like a good step to me in preserving some players that possibly feel the same way.

I think that their ideas are a step in the right direction. Since Delve is the Top Tier content that requires an alliance, they want to go back and fill in other content for smaller groups so that players who don't participate in Delve, or cannot get their KI's have the ability to do content that has rewards that are close to those of delve. Right now, Delve Armor and Weapons are top tier, however, Skirmish v2 is going to introduce gear that is an item level higher than Delve gear and a few levels below delve weapons. I think the only thing that really hinders this system is player acceptance. After the update, will people still demand that members joining shouts have Delve weapons or will they accept Skirmish v2 weapons as well?

I'm guessing most Skirmish v2 weapons will be instantly better than Delve NM weapons because most players aren't progressing the Delve weapons to the final levels. Remember the item levels are based on the best possible augment values. It only takes a couple tries typically to get a decent augment on Skirmish weapons, one if you're lucky, whereas with Delve weapons, you're spending tons of time and/or gil to progress through the upgrade path.

In that sense, rather than rushing to adding the next Delve content, we plan to focus on adding a greater variety of equipment available at similar content (item) levels, such as we have in the past at levels 75 and 99. Additionally, we also think we should focus on the adjustments and upgrades to job-specific equipment and Relic/Mythic/Empyrean weapons before focusing on new top-tier content.
Perhaps the best news I've read since... since... forever.

This gives those who don't care for delve some hope

I kind of wonder if the apologic nature of Matsui's post is a result of him trying to direct his comments to the Official Forums that is seems to be liternally foaming at the mouth in outrage and XIV related conspiracy theories it seems like right now. I wonder if it's even possible to quell the fires there.

Hoping theres a G.sword WAR can use in this new content. And an axe that doesnt require megaboss kills. Hopefully new skirmish will give my group the push it needs to get up to speed on megabosses.

Well the fact that delve mega boss weapons were meant to symbolize the pinnacle of item levels at the moment, I am wondering how they will entice people to buy or try for new weapons if they are just plain outclassed. Only a handful of shells kill these mega bosses and if those weapons are the only options, then this will force people to join bigger shells rather than current shells with friends that may not be strong enough to kill these guys.

I hope skirmish 2.0 gives weapons of slightly less DMG but more variety. for example, the oaxiturs are awesome for MNK. As a PUP only job though, this weapon does nothing substantial for me since you only need it to kill the mega bosses and PUP is not in people's strategy ATM for delve bosses. The huge damage boost is nice but it doesn't help my automaton as much as rigors do. I am hoping for some kind of happy medium when it comes to the next set of weapons.

The mentioning of adjustments to gear outside of R/M/E makes me wonder if perhaps they are still going to upgrade the Evoker's Ring like they said they were thinking about many moons ago.

Also one of the upsides of playing a mage all these years is that R/E never mattered to me so I never made them. So I get the joy of sitting on the outside watching the chaos without having a horse in this race.

A "happy medium" is just going to push PUP further into obscurity. The job is never going to be competitive so long as hybridization is the endgame

Hmm trying to estimate where the new zones are going to be located in relation to each other. I had been assuming that they would simply connect to Morimar and Foret with another "X_Gates" tunnel dungeon adjoining them. But the way the new info describes them makes it sound like it's different. Plus there is only one new "X_Gates" tunnel as opposed to two you would expect.

Situated above the Cirdas Caverns, Yorcia Weald flourishes with a cornucopia of ancient vegetation
Being connected to Cirdas Caverns as well as Marjami Ravine and Foret de Hennetiel, it is surprising that the Dho Gates do not cause a larger number of pioneers to lose their way
Marjami Revine- Many ridges meander back and forth across this natural terrace adjoining the Dho Gates, but the swift-flowing river that runs from north to south cleaves the land the deepest by far.
It plainly states that Foret connects to Dho Gates which connects to Marjami. It's less clear how to get to Yorcia Weald though, it only says it's above Cirdas. I've noted on the Cirdas map that there are 2 vine ledges symetrically mirrored north/south on the outer perimiter and another 2 in the center of the map. So it makes me think Yorcia Weald might only be accessible using the vine skill that will probably come from a Marjami area quest.

Well, as it is going now, only a few jobs like MNK and SAMs are useful for end game delve. Tier 4s and 5s can be defeated by any solid DDs. PUP is going through what all the other jobs are going through ATM. People just underestimate the power of the automaton.

If anything there is more variety in the DD's we use now than there was before Adoulin. Now we personally use MNK, SAM, WAR, DRK, DRG, RNG. Whereas we never used MNK pre-seekers and it was extremely rare for us to take a DRG.

There's also a greater variety in sub jobs being used too.
