I'm excited about Monstrosity.. hopefully it turns out to be a good system. I wonder if they will allow some of those traits to be used on our characters to further grow them. I see it's using an equipping system similar to PUP's automaton

I'm really interested in Monstrosity, I just hope the grind isn't excessive, after all we're moving away from that aren't we.
I soloed 1-30ish Tiger on the test server during one of the emergency maints. It wasn't that bad (normal xp/kill + tnl, but you're really strong). There was a recent post on the JP forums responding the monstrosity comments that indicated they were going to decrease the tnls, though, so it should get even easier. Hopefully they remove the 50+ xp/level bump.
I've been really interested in this concept for awhile and I'm glad to see it finally coming together. Looking forward to it.
I've actually recently stopped playing FFXI, Monstrosity is something I was looking forward too, I'll probably come back just to give it a try. I've always wanted to be an NM =0, the fact I can and even customize myself to some degree is going to be fun.
PVP For its going to suck if you're (As a Monster) capped at any particular level as I.level 120+ Equipment pretty much means your monster would need to be Tojil Level for it to be difficult for a 6 man group... Which i guess could be possibly but seems unlikely. It looks like Monster V Monster is possible, I think they did mention Player V monsterplayer, I'm actually not entirely pessimistic about how they'll do this and I look forward to it, I really do...
Gear seems upgradable...wonder if it will be sidegrade gear or not considering the sidequestish nature of this content i.e MMM/Meebles/Registry Hunts/Evoliths/FoV Augment/Fay Weapons
Customization for your monster might give this system a pretty good longevity, sounds like it'll be really fun to build your fiend! c:
Pankration/chocobo raising were exceedingly boring thou, and barely interactive. And even as lame as they were, I bet far, far more players did those events than ever touched things like legion, or delve mega bosses.
I doubt monstrosity will have any external rewards beyond novelty items, but I expect it will be much more popular than the above, and will remain used, if only for some form of convenient pvp.
i dunno. i actually thought Pankration was fun.. but once you figured out the dominant winning strategy based on other players it was pretty much nothing left to do.
the only real reward that wasn't a closed system was that jettons -> buy soulplates/camera to take pics -> zeni.. which is actually fair enough to me. back in the day you needed to take way more pics to afford the zeni stuff (which was stupid) i'm quite glad they lowered the dependence on the time sink.
the only other thing is the Aht Urhgan beastmen helms - its such a waste how they're useless stats-wise. in fact its a pity how ALL the beastmen headgear are cosmetic (the SCNM ones weren't any good either). once upon a time they may have looked silly given the overall theme of gear design.. but now.. they'd fit right in... i mean.. look at the Voay stuff >_>
I loved trying to figure out new ways of beating the champs in pank. Eventually ended up making a chig with like 3 speed boost and enterror named relentless stalker iirc <.<. Pwned pretty much any non earth based mob
Gnadbhod's Helm and Quadav Hat had limited use in their heydays.
Like all systems, SE is fond of putting in work but failing to build anything to last. I expect another Moblin Maze Mongers where things are great on paper, work decent enough in practice but completely fail to progress once implemented. It's worse these days when every update vaporizes the previous tiers of gear.
Shit, just give out cosmetic skins or something that can be mix/matched with some gear. How I'd love to erase the Manibozo look.
The Orc one was one of the best helms for a bunch of WSs and the Quadav one was the only way to get Snapshot on head. They didn't last long but they were actually pretty useful.
I found Pankration fun too, if it got expansions and balancing like it seemed like it was supposed to get it probably could've become a lot more fun (a problem was that a lot of abilities made it so that that was the only ability you could have, like enpetrify or whatever). Also taking lots and lots of pictures for a 1% chance at a super ability was fucking stupid.
One of my pets was a blaze-spiked slime.
I don't actually expect rewards that work outside of the event itself from Monstrosity. As long as it provides good enough entertainment I don't really care.
It'll also be the closest thing we get to open-world PvP also, once mob vs mob is in at a later date.
How is the levelling system handled anyways? Can every mob hit the same cap? Do they all start at lvl1? Might be my new waiting-on-LS-event timesink since my Fellow NPC is 9 levels away from capping, and this event looks to be pretty accessible.
Yeah I don't think it has to have outside applications it just needs to have a reason to do it for more than 2 hours. That was pankrations problem. There just was so little there and there was no reward to make you want to grind the same thing over and over again. They could've easily expanded it enough to make it a fun content to do for longer but it didn't. Throwing rewards into it is kinda the lazy way of keeping content played. Instead of making it enjoyable or interesting they just give you something that they hope you want to make other parts of the game you enjoy easier or more enjoyable
Never been bothered to get on the test server, but atm it sounds like this all takes place in a lobby type of area, right? Has there been any word if it will remain as such on live servers? Or are we looking at more of a waiting for ally to gather, switch to your mob, and kill some shit around while you wait system?
After 11 years, i really don't have much faith in SE... if nobody's noticed, they don't have a very big crew of guys working on the game.
