If I were Tanaka, I'd probably try to find a new field to work in, and never show my face around the real devs again. MMOs are not his strong point.

Dunno if anyone noticed the allusion to the next set of Reive/Bayld equipment, but looks like it's going to be around item level 110
I was confused about his post about Axes. Aren't there a ton of Axes lvl 99-120 for BST? They get:

    Coalition Axe
    Faizzeer
    Icoyoca
    Kerehcatl
    Forefront Axe
    Bretheren Axe
    Hunahpu

Unless SE catgorizes the Hurkan Axe as a BST onry Axe and the Muyingwa as a WAR/BST axe, so they should be one Delve boss one for each category(dumb).
There could be an AF1+1 Axe which would be ilvl109 like GEO and RUN AF weapons. All jobs could get an AF1+1 weapons and for the weird ones like SCH and DNC(lolchakram) they could instead just get a proper weapon with relevant boosts.

i think they just wanted to give more axe options to people who don't do endgame content like Skirmish or Delve... and also probably because pet level for BST is locked to both main weapon and beast affinity.. and because of that it severely limited axe options since you'd just wanna pick the highest axe level possible?

I don't want to start a big debate about it or anything since I'm sure you know it's been discussed a lot elsewhere, but it's not so much about what you or I think of the changes as it is you're implying that the entire (or the majority rather) playerbase has a positive feel about them. I know XI players will always complain regardless, but still.

One Matsui post he forgot to add magic evasion to his last post. Looks like the fall update will be split into two updates and they're planning to announce dates in the near future from JP's dev summary.

I'm guessing like previously, the weapons will appear first (along with the new areas and slightly higher level Reives), and then the armor will appear in the next update. It'd be nice if they just get it all out at once since I'm sure 99% of it will be trash, but that might be hoping for too much.
Or we might just see sidegearing happen if we end up with a cluster of equipment in the 106-113 range. Plug in a few specialty bits and you're back to cheerfully swapping gear for specific WS's/spells/whatever.

Tanaka just ran out of fuel after ToAU. WotG had a great lore, but content leaves a lot to be desired...Matsui released a new expansion making everyone happy, but things aren't turning out that well at the moment. People just like scapegoats, as of now Tanaka has overall more merits than Matsui in his record.

This not to excuse him for everything, however comedy factor aside, I believe people really tend to exagerate things.

Regardless of the state of the game (all things considered, IMO, its pretty decent, just a lack of content that matters), Matsui wins in my book simply for his willingness to communicate. All I remember prior to him was "we'll get back to you on that." So many questions at Vanafest, dev posts, etc, were completely lacking in any insight, details, etc. At least now, we can understand (usually) where he's coming from with things, why its being done, etc.

If we would have gotten all the updates that made the game friendlier to play and move around pre or during ToAU with the comminication we have now XI would have been in a better state the last couple years then it was.

imagine kings being poped how they are now back when toua hit shelfs (to make them obsolete).
the adjustment to dynamis we got
    level sync
    adjustments to limbus
    exp boosts
    login campaigns
    etc.

would have been a hugr impact to keep players in the game

Wasn't Tanaka there till the end of the 3 bad addons, then Yoshida took over for the 2 years of abyssea, Tanaka came back with VW, Legion and revival of old stuff and now Matsui released Adoulin only(for now)? Not sure who did Meebles, I think Matsui?
    Is my timeline wrong?

Just so we don't confuse things at least.

That's a good point, Tanaka was always very "obscure" with the playerbase, which definitely never did him well.

Tanaka was very stationary, Level sync was introduced way later during/mid WotG (that was allready to late, besides I think tanaka was then way more involved with FFXIV then with FFXI), besides he only did things if he really had to or was basicly FORCED to.

    Yoshida brought us:
    popable Kings
    Dynamis adjustments
(Abyssea but I am talking about old stuff adjustments)
I am not sure if the raising of amount of EXp from EP-EM mobs falls into his category too.

While tanska was allready here when dynamis adjustments were made I think they were planned way before he came back (during the abyssea era)
    Matsui made the adjustments to:
Limbus being 20 hours for rentry
Einherjar being 20 hours for reentry + points to spend on wings to enter if you missed a run (that shit would have been golden during ToAU)
Various other job adjustment, moveing around adjustments etc to make life easier

The biggest mistake they have made was to make kings be the only endgame needed for fuckign 7 years+. god. No other MMO I know kept shit that long relevant.

I always find it hard to attribute things in the game to a single person (we always like to say "look, this guy's gone and things change, it must've been that guy's fault" which is logical but is nevertheless inductive). I don't agree with people that crazy things like 24-hours spawns were a good thing, but I do like certain things like lateral growth. Like I said I don't want to go into too much detail, but I want to make it clear I like certain things about both directors and I certainly hate lots of things about both of them too.

For the record I loved Abyssea and that was basically the polar opposite of what Tanaka liked to do with the game. I've been pretty lukewarm about Adoulin though, because the ilevel system fits very awkwardly inside XI's system and it's obvious they put very little thought into the consequences when they're still constantly adding band-aids like +250 skill.

And, while people like to praise Matsui being transparent, a lot of the time I feel their answers are just as much non-answers as Tanaka's were. Instead of obscurantism he uses very "PC" answers.

In my opinion the game was allways moving in a positiv direction when Tanaka was left out of the field or busy with something else, as soon as he had his fingers in FFXI, things moved into a bad direction. I give Matsui credit for trying to bring growth without using a lvl cap raise (which seems to be a problem and would have ment more exp grinding), the iLvl system is something totaly new for FFXI and considering how old the game is and that it wasn built for a iLvl system in the first place, he is doing a good job with it. Of course they need to fix stuff here and there, its a totally new system for a game that wasnt designed to have such a system in the first place. Its basicly lvling up via items instead of exp and considering they have to think about 22 jobs and various otherthings its reasonable that stuff isnt perfect right from the start (hell no MMO releases stuff perfectly done, there is allways something that isnt good when its implemented at the first time).

The ilvl stuff is/was very shortsighted given how little content the devs output into this game. People generally had a lot of stuff to do pre-ilvl due to how much relevant gear there was spread across wide variety of legacy content. Now 95% of it has been made obsolete, so there's very little to do if you're done with/sick of/can't find a group for delve/wkr. Yorcia skirmish was popular for like a week till people capped on gear, now it's mostly dead already, almost no one on my server grinding it out for the random augments.

Really, for me, the bigger crime of Yorcia Skirmish isn't the drops, it's how boring the event is.
