I don't know why the event is tuned as low as it is. I've mostly been doing t2-4 with 3 players (and the 2 besides me are generally useless random pickup players), and it's still a joke. I'm confident I could solo up to t4 on sch rdm or blu. I haven't tried t5 so I can't judge that one, but I can't imagine it's much harder.

T5 is much harder than T4. The difference is huge. You get waves of 10-15 mobs every 30 seconds or so in the last 10 minutes (with all dens dead).

ya... I cant really stand this... in the old skirmish.. a party could clear a T5 in cirdas in ~20 mins... 3 ppl east, other 3 west... Yorcia... 45 mins... or 45 mins... no way to speed it up... they should change it.. if you kill dens reduce the time needed -_- or dont know... but is so boring...

And it's boringness could be somewhat standed if you didn't know that all the gil you are throwing at entering and waiting around is most likely going to be outdated next update. I don't think they understand that in order to get people to do something there has to either be a time/gil efficient reward to work towards that will help later on or it be fun enough that people want to do it just to do it.

Like could I use alot of the gear from skirmish 2? Does it beat most of what I have? Sure. But I'd much rather do monstrosity with no current rewards and unknown ones in the future other than lvling up what goes along with that because it's fun and I know the time I'm spending on it now wont be invalidated by the next update. In fact it will probably build on it

If you look at the pieces as PDT pieces instead of DD or casting pieces, then it's likely that many of them will be the best for that purpose for a long time, since SE has been very stingy in giving out PDT in Adoulin.

Perhaps. But their other uses will be probably get outdated. And that's alot of boring to update my pdt set with a little more def and some offensive stats lol

You'll also lose a bunch of def/int/mnd/vit/meva/mdb by switching from ilvl 119 gear to 113, they won't really be that impressive even for survivability.

You get 13 defense going from Manibozho Jerkin to Otronif Harness. If you have 1300 Defense (not likely) isn't that like 1% PDT? If they keep Defense differences high enough PDT is going to look less impressive. It used to be a bigger deal because it was like, armor that was 10 levels apart had a difference of 5 defense or something stupid like that. (Gallant and Valor Surcoats are different by 8 DEF, lol)

We tend to credit things to either Tanaka or Matsui because they're the most prominent people.

Defense didn't use to matter against HNM level stuff, because you were generally going to be floored unless you were going crazy with cocoon + defender or something. Post atk/def update, it does.

I was just going for the "your men, your plan" line. Yes, Tanaka and Matsui arent doing all the work, but they're obviously the ones in charge, that have the power to say "no this is a bad idea" or "yes, this is a good idea". When something happens that is a bad idea, the person in charge is at fault.

Should have said they put someone competent at the helm, and FFXI didnt need a 3 year public beta.

I didn't want to be mean to him. I mean, he worked under Tanaka. That was punishment enough.

Kind of dumb for a SE employee to talk like that about a game still chugging along 12 years later >.>

Maybe I'm remembering him wrong, but (besides his memorable quotes) didn't he always have a super positive attitude? Like borderline Miyamoto showing up to E3 with a Zelda sword and shield grinning ear to ear.

Skirmish in general is pretty popular on Odin, even the weapon skirmishes, I'm a little surprised but I'm just glad to see shouts. It makes the game feel more alive, and that makes me happy.

Matsui's biggest enemy is simply the resources SE is (not) giving him. My tinfoil hat side feels it intentional to move people toward XIV, but my more optimistic side would like to believe all the "Soon(tm)!" rhetoric would be sooner if he wasn't running on a skeleton crew. Much as I hate that he caved to updating RMEs, there's no excuse for it being, what, 6 months later without those upgrades being in place? Are adding more magian trials that hard with what could feasibly require turn-ins bought by delve currency with boss KIs acquired?

Does it make any sense to spend a ton of resources adding a bunch of quests for iLvl 109 Artifact Armor after adding iLvl 113 easily-obtained Skirmish equipment and iLvl 110 out-for-months Delve gear? No, it does not.

We are currently in the worst content drought since that time between WotG and Abyssea, and it's Matsui's fault because he is releasing his vertical gear progression slowly and in descending order. The decision to switch models was very poorly thought out in the first place, but implementing it this way is just the coup de grace. Terrible. For the first time in years, I am seriously considering deactivating.
