The only jobs that have rare/ex weapons from bosses and go as DDs (from what I've seen) are MNK, SAM, DRG, BLU, and RNG if you count the Shark ammo. Unless your shouts are WAY more stringent than the ones on my server, and require boss armor or something, you can just go as a different job that doesn't require delve boss weapons.

In my experience people expect you to have boss weapons (if applicable) or the AH 117 weapon, Senbaak etc. Skirmish +1 doesn't cut it, 30k Plasm weapons don't either. So either lvl brd/cor/geo or already have the gear from these events. Also worth noting I've seen people fail Tojil with 10 min left in the zone and the boss weapons etc. This is after the skill + update.

DD jobs exist other than Oax mnk? on my server it's have Oax or you don't exist with the tiny exception of Uptala Sam for fish runs(but having the gkt drop already is usually required as well) and a tiny tiny chance they dont already have a drg on the bee.
Otherwise you aren't getting in unless you're durba brd, geo, sch the occasional cor, or the rare whm or rdm.

The shouts usually start with only geo brd sch left and if they do have spaces for others they never mention it in chatlog so alot of people get tricked into thinking there's no room preemptively until they notice funky things going on with the jobs shouted for.
I guess it must be better on other servers from what ive gathered most people have to buy a win for 10m+ so that they can enter delve groups.

You can get into shouts on my server with many different jobs; as Senbaak DRKs, Razorfury WARs, non-Daur/Gjal bards, corsairs, GEOs, RDMs, WHMs, and then DRG, SAM, and MNK if you have boss weapon. You get your gear examined for the more essential jobs if no one in the shout knows you, but as long as you pass and you catch the shout early enough, it's all good.

It looks like the bosses on your server are still done mostly by linkshells who just have to fill out a few jobs after filling from the linkshell. My server has a few people that are willing to make groups that are 75% pickup (while winning). At least, on Tojil. Shark is rarer, and Bee is rarer still.

I not sure what to say about your server problem. I'd say make your own, but that usually doesn't go very smoothly without experience in leading it (I've tried).

That was at the start but now it's mostly pickups doing these shouts and the requirements to get in are exactly the same.
Shark is pretty rare though so maybe the sharks ive seen this week were linkshell groups i never bothered joining before.(they get jobs they need that I have faster than the shout appears on ffxiah most of the time for shark)

Oat MNK is good for Tojil but Tsumaru SAMs can be better DDs in general. I've seen parses where SAM destroys MNKs. You'd think MNK would win on Tojil given that the last 25% is blunt weak and MNKs get like 2x Hundred Fists, but when SAM's are blasting out 14k Shohas on the reg during Slashing Phase and 4hitting with capped haste, man...

More of it is player based. I'll have to look at actual damage total comparisons between my MNK and my SAM, but I think it depends on how many mnks there are and how many slashing DD.

From what I've been in on Asura, I always just assumed people shout for geo/brd/sch first so you don't end up with the situation of a 15/18 alliance waiting forever on those hard-to-get jobs. Better to get them in first since iLvl119 DDs are a dime a dozen.

On another note, jesus christ I've seen a lot of bad GEOs. It's not a hard job to play folks....

...of course, you also have people who just leeched it in Abyssea to 99 and never actually played it until then.

The "traditional" 1-75 tracks so many of us are familiar with wouldn't teach a GEO a damned thing about how to function in delve

I can't believe people still use this as a talking point

Yeah, at least partially because GEO would have had no use in a traditional party.

Like, unless I'm missing something, GEO is a worse buffer than SMN and has comparable healing/damage capacities. SMN had no use in a traditional party.

I've always said one thing about pickup Delve, and it's usually on point: if you shout for SCH, you're gonna have a bad time. SCH is basically the most important job to take on Tojil runs, yet most of the time people will shout for SCH x2. Sometimes groups get lucky and a good SCH jumps into a run, but most of the time it's a complete catastrophe. Another thing I've noticed is that the good people that answer shouts usually only join certain groups. At least on my server alot of people won't join runs led by certain people due to past runs being complete disasters. When others shout, though, you need to send a tell asap since those will fill up quickly (and will usually win).

Also, I'm not sure if it's the same on other servers, but why the shit do most GEOs just use 5/5 AF and call it a day? Body/hands/feet I'd understand, but hat and legs?

What does that have to do with casting an indi spell then casting a geo spell before rinse/repeat the entire run?

Well, if you're the geo standing near the boss for indi-langour, you might as well idle in the hat/legs if you don't have hagondes/bee hat or whatever. The damage mitigation/avoidance from ilvl gear is pretty significant.

I frontline on GEO (because the PUGs tend to never gearswap, meaning I'm blowing too much MP keeping them alive), and I keep legs on for the 20% SID (which stackes from 10% in merits) and the 12% Fast Cast. Hat I got bee hat for. Used nares prior to that. Refresh hairpin probably better than nares for idling, but I have no luck with that.

There's no reason use af pants in idle/DT set if you have hagondes and use spellcast.

You haven't had a 99 GEO in a worm party in Aby-La Theine bitching about how he can't target Megamaw with an indi spell while standing at max nuking range. For the BLMs.

    The stupid, it burned.

I was asking because I always use refresh hairpin and nares pants for idling whenever I play GEO in pickup Delve. Literally every other GEO I've ever seen are using 5/5 AF fulltime and was just wondering if I was doing something wrong. Typically use them for standing next to bosses too since I burn through mp pretty quick. Never really had any problem staying alive.

If you want to play Geo the lazy way, sure, l2indi/geo and be done with it. But Geo offers a good bit more than just those limited functions. Can nuke and debuff as good as any other job really, and while the healing is on par with anyone that's /Rdm, its still enough healing for plenty of things, if you take the time to use gear swaps and hit cure pot cap. Nuking used to be quite the joke, and to a degree, it still is. But its not that difficult to hit solid tier I numbers, and they're plenty spammable. Is it comparable to a fully buffed melee? Hell no. But is it something to be completely written off as useless? Not at all.

As mentioned above, for close range Geos (why even do this anymore?), ilvl gear offered a good bit of extra defenses, but really, there's no excuse not to have 5/5 Skirmish gear IMO. If you haven't gotten it yet, get it, its piss easy.

And at least personally, I think Geo in the old school 1-75 game wouldn't of been useless at all, at least if we're talking olllld school. Parties wouldn't even start without a Brd and/or Rdm sometimes, just for the Refresh factor. You'd have that, and could easily do Geo-Precision (if doing the old mentality of kill all the IT++ things) or Geo-Frailty. Would it be a massive omg glad you're here Geo type of deal? Not at all, but it'd be their use. Toss in side cures from /Rdm, nuking for DPS or MBing, etc. It'd fill a similar roll to Blm I think. I remember Blms having to heal all the time back then just cause incoming damage was more then the Whm could keep up with without pulling threat.
