I kind of like these mini promotional events. I use to play some KRPGs growing up like Gunbound and Maple Story and I like how games like that gave random promotional "Double EXP Weekends" for holidays, or sometimes unannounced special events where treasure drops doubled. Throughout FFXI's life we never had special events like that, just repetitive holiday/seasonal events that gave some boring or gimmicky piece of equipment. The best events in MMORPGs are events that can actually benefit the player. Ever Xmas/Summerfest/Halloween/Valentines event should have been paired with a double EXP event, or an event that doubled drop rates of Seals/Geodes or Double Assault Permits per day. Just little things like that which show the company cares.

Almost every major MMO, when there's an extra long maintenance extension or an emergency maintenance or natural disaster, gives a "Double EXP/Item drop grace period". I remember when Gunbound was down due to some kind of server problem, for like 12 hours and they said on their front page "Sorry for the inconveniences, when the servers are back up, expect a 10 hour 2x EXP period". Shit like this is what SE should start doing, it would mitigate a lot of the hate and increase their PR a lot.

95% of these 'quality of life' updates we're getting now should have been implemented back in 2005. It's sad that we finally get them now, when the game is on the verge of death. May SE learn from their mistakes, it was their first MMO, hopefully they do better with FF14.

tl;dr version for the lazy; if you know certain programming languages you can tell the xiv server to make you level 50, infinite gil and magic items into other items. Ultimate win-the-game button is in XIV, buy today and you'll get a free ban.

Not really Dev tracker, but you can probably think of it as "Dev Tracker: Advance Notice Edition"

    http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/40...one/1/#2474513

    tl;dr:
People have been getting DCed/trying to log in only to find their POL accounts deleted. Full deletion; all characters instantly gone from the server. Perhaps the POL servers need some maintenance.

Is Formless Strikes a good option on Monarch Linn HKCBC instead of being assed to bringing a nuking job (after the eles are killed)?

Can A or B Riverne be used to access this BC or is it only 1 of them specifically?

My 1st ever run in Dragon Scales dropped Scarletite Ingot (was somebody compiling drop data?).

Has anyone noticed a specific BC that can't drop Meteor/Arise? I have spammed Dragon Scales and gotten Geo scrolls a few times, I dunno if those are just uncommon and Arise/Meteor are the rare.

Any news about the spire fights and if they drop anything specific? the wait at balgas dias is driving me insane. i just wanted a waltz head and it takes 40+ minutes of spamming to get in.
nvm doesnt matter. it seems I wasted so much time trying to even enter at balgas dias that the event ran out.

Pretty sure I read it somewhere here, by Byrth too, that Uk'cap/hat from Hurkan was a better headpiece for self-target waltzes anyway, unless you must have the bonnet for looks.

Huh... all the random +CHR and VIT on gear now means it might be worth making waltz sets for /dnc ...

The VIT/CHR multiplier is halved for DNC subjob, which means it's harder for VIT/CHR to overcome pure waltz potency. Also, I said that it was better when you're targeting yourself on DNC (because you benefit from both its VIT and CHR). Khepri is still better in most situations, but it's not crushingly better anymore.

Actually that was more "Now I have a bunch more gear that it would be worth swapping into, because pre-andolin I never had gear with VIT and CHR on it unless I was DNC Main" vs "I should equip more vit/chr gear on /dnc"

So new dev note. Looks like they talking about inviting people to mog garden and dealing with stupid meteorite spams you sometimes get. But my translator is going weird. One line is "Priority-low, so sorry but please urinate at present."

It looks like people will be farming a lot of NQ monsters with this update for base points (given the inefficiency in the system), which makes me want to stop xping monsters for the moment and just wait it out. I wonder of prestige will be tied to your monster, or if it will change when you change species. It is going to be very difficult for monsters to accrue points any way other than killing players (unless they can do it out of gladiator mode), because at level 99 there aren't really any good xp camps and if you go out at <99 you're going to get mauled by adventurers.

I've leveled a lot of monsters to 75+ now (Behemoth, Tiger, and Rabbit to 99) and can tell you that unless the fight is 1v1, monsters don't have much of a chance. Monster evasion doesn't mean shit against Delve weapons, and I'm sure that most characters with iLevel gear will be nearly untouchable in terms of hit rate. The two advantages of monsters are 1) that they can store TP and unleash it all at once and 2) that they have a ton of HP. In 1v1 fights, for instance, my Rabbit or Gnat would kill pretty much any player that they could hit. In 1v2 fights, you'd have to blow your TP taking out the support character and then hope the other guy wasn't a Paladin or evasive.

... of course, the fact that there are 500 people on most nights (about half of them afk) indicates that this whole PvM thing might not even really matter. It would suck if someone did /sea, looked for the anons, and then walked all the way into the bowels of CN just to confirm that I'm not in gladiator mode.

I, for one, look forward to reaching HNM and then monetizing it.

I mean, that's pretty much the only thing monipulators get out of this, right? Is there some way we didn't spend dozens upon dozens of hours leveling monsters for the privilege of being better farming targets for people with Delve weapons, who naturally get to reap all the actual rewards of the system?

Depending how this is implemented "farming" points with PvM should be really exploitable if you have a mule. Sign up for PvM, go to a remote area, beat on a naked 99 whm or kill a 99 rabbit who doesn't attack, ???, profit. Wouldn't be much fun but possibly a viable way to get gear quickly if it's any good.

You're assuming that they remember to account for level differences with PvM for whether or not you gain prestige or infamy. If not, then you can have the mule be a low level monster, and killing it will be a lot faster. A small zone like Valley of Sorrows would be best for getting back.

You can't win-trade like that. You get 20% of your victim's current infamy, and the victim loses 30% of his. Killing the same guy repeatedly tanks his infamy too fast to make it worth while.

It's a pretty bad system overall, mostly because you risk losing too much by engaging in a fight you can't be sure you'll win, and from the looks of it players can opt out of being targets while monsters cannot. Players will never be at a disadvantage (never have to expose themselves until they get delve weapons or better), and monsters can't ever become powerful enough to challenge players without spending 100+ hours at this disadvantage.

    Hugely disappointed.
