That's true. The other day I had a planar rift and chest up at the same time, it was weird. The planar rift wasn't actually visible but it was target-able. I kept targetting an NPC and double clicking and then asking "why the hell am I not getting my treasure?" until I figured to actually look at the name.

Pretty much the only third party thing I do is use the basic windower stuff (TParty, Timestamp etc), so I doubt it was any plugins or anything that made that happen.

Given a few weeks with nothing else to do, I'm fairly confident that I could ban many people for TOS violations using only data that's already reported to the server with a minimum of innocent casualties. You could figure out everything from flee hacking to AH botting to shit like this by doing statistics on server requests from individual characters. For instance:
1) You could ban everyone that trades a book to the assault exit in under a minute. Minimum of innocent casualties, and you get the people that cheated. SE's servers are almost certainly involved in that transaction and it's not unreasonable to expect it would be logged.
2) You could do statistics on player position reports when on job combinations without access to Powder Boots/Flee. If someone's mean speed over a reasonable amount of time (say 3 minutes) exceeds what is theoretically possible, ban them.
3) You could do statistics on how quickly players swap equipment. Windower macros and spellcast swap it much faster than vanilla macros because of the forced delay between macro lines in the official client. There, now you've caught 90% of the windower crowd.
4) You could do analysis of AH use frequency/time of day for each character. If you find that a character is active (moving around and issuing different server commands) at pretty much any time that they aren't placing AH bids at a regular interval, ban them for AH botting.
5) Fish botting would be easy enough. Just analyze how selective people are for specific fish in ambiguous cases.

Still, there's no one at SE with this job and it probably wouldn't be a smart business decision to ban everyone like this even if there was, so it doesn't get done.

I find it funny, because I do something similar at my job. It's not related to video games, but I'm pretty much analyzing data, and looking for holes/people trying to cheat the system/etc, so I'm often thinking when playing this game "It would be so easy to catch a bunch of people cheating just by querying some server logs..." <.<

Pretty easy to tell that you shouldn't be getting 3 Hikazu Hare-ate in the same run. Anyone who thought that was undetectable is an idiot.

Don't fully get the fish bot one. Its not hard to target a single fish without a bot at all.

If you want to nail down down bots, go after people who have no fishing rings and low skillcombo catching them to fast.

Haks/Lik/gug all act way different from everything else their bait lands.

For battlefield orbs, the processing mechanism is different: if you select "no" on the confirmation dialogue after trading the orb, it is necessary to have the orb returned to cancel so it cannot be taken from the player when traded.

Also, since there are many different kinds of orbs and a large number of battlefields, and additionally cases where you use key items to enter for missions and quests, it is honestly not likely that we will be making this change. For battlefields, please allow the status quo to remain for the time being.

This doesn't make sense to me. Why not take the orb when you zone in to the BC, like how they take KIs?

Also, isn't there still a cancel dialogue after you trade a chip set for Ultima/Omega? How is that any different?

Don't think so, I think it's just trade chips -> which battlefield do you want to enter? -> enter. Like if you trade the Omega chips you have to select "Central Apollyon" or whatever, but there's no further confirmation dialogue as far as I can remember.

But yeah, it still makes no sense.

Yeah was thinking the same thing. Would've made more sense awhile ago back before they had the extra messages. But even then figuring out what was on your line based on fatigue and fight wasn't too hard. The newer messages just make it way to easy to figure out lol. I would add nail people who have it on longer then they should

I just did Ultima yesterday and it does have an extra confirmation box after choosing the area, so their answer makes no sense at all, unless they're saying they programmed it in a totally different manner. That seems unlikely.

I don't know, it's a pointless post really, almost like something you'd expect to hear from a campaigning politician. Still, it sounded good.

I think this bit was him basically saying "I want people to use proper battle tactics again [instead of relying on embrava and PD]"

Things like tactically casting Stun to stop a strong technique, properly using equipment and medicines, or fully understanding the layout of a battlefield...there are many different types or levels of "room to improve."

When I look at FFXI recently from this viewpoint, the types of improvements that were made have been biased.

It sounds like he was asking not to be judged on previous content, that the current version updates and expansion will be based on his vision of what FFXI should be, not previous leadership.
