I think they always envisioned SMN as a potent buffer, adequate DD, hate free damage, emergency healer, and mild magic damage dealer. They have improved the job over the years but there are still areas it needs work on (this thread pretty much nails it). With the new SP though, a well geared SMN can chain spell stunga or unleash some pretty potent magic damage for 30 seconds. It's a step in the right direction that could be helped by lowering that BP timer limit on gear, SE :D
Also, wasn't there going to be some informative posts from Matsui today? Give us some love devs!
This whole SMN talk started because someone mentioned CaitSith.
Give us CaitSith and we'll shut the fuck up for a while.
If Matsui did start actively trying to bring in new players to FF11, I'd guess that the higher-ups would lean on him to stop damn quick. They want those people to save FF14 (and with it, Wada's ego and job). There's no way that FF11 is going to get any major new player oriented content or fixes until FF14 2.0 has either convincingly succeeded or abysmally flopped.
iirc, Fenrir is the DRK. Diablos is a blm, I believe.
All of the celestial avatars and Diabolos are BLMs. Fenrir is probably DRK (but doesn't intimidate Arcana, iirc). Carby is probably WHM (complete with Auto-Regen II).
Avatars are a weird kind of half-job bastardization. They all get crit damage bonus (I think) and Subtle Blow (if I'm remembering right).
He does have the att bonus though, I do remember that from the old Alla post.
It has always seemed like bst pets function as if they are higher level than they actually are somehow. Their damage/accuracy doesn't drop off nearly as harshly as you would expect it to on high level monsters (jugs weren't frequently hitting kirin for 0 at 75 like unbuffed players for example), and their resist rates are through the roof compared to a player of the same level.
SE loves BST more than SMN anyway.
Do automatons have extremely high elemental/debuff resistances like jug pets?
