I think apart from season 1 and maybe 2 it's always been hinted at that the mother was a blonde and the "bump" girl was brunette.

I dunno, i can't stand Sarah Chalke so i don't think i ever warmed to Stella as a character. The whole thing with her having a kid already sorta hinted to me that she was more of a filler relationship to buy them a season or more time to develop their mother hints.

Stella (like Victoria before her) was written so that if they didn't get renewed, she would be the mother. There were things they did to make her fill the role -- like saying the only party she had been out to in the past year was a lame St. Patrick's day party.

Mother has to be the finale or next season's premiere. The writers said they have the date set for the wedding, and they won't change that. May something of this year.
