Really laggy PC

For some reason my PC has been super laggy and I can't figure out why. It stutters and pauses randomly when doing things. Like typing this post, it has stuttered and lagged. When opening browsers or pages it takes a bit and is not responsive. This is happening without having anything but firefox and other small programs on. Super annoying. Any suggestions?

Ok I was curious if you were running multiple AV software suites but it appears you're only using Avast.

Next you need to download core temp and let's see if your CPU is overheating. It sounds like your CPU is throttling itself.

My wife's computer had a similar problem and it ended up being her hard drive. When she'd boot up the computer, it'd take 3-4 minutes before she could do anything, computer would hang for 2 minutes at a time browsing the web, etc.

It's not that bad. I leave my pc on so I don't know if it's having trouble booting up. Everything else seems to work fine. Ffxi runs sfine and other programs. It's just my browser it seems.

Turn off hardware acceleration in Flash.

Right click on any youtube video -> settings -> far left tab -> uncheck box.

All browsers or just Firefox? If the latter, have you tried resetting Firefox to the default state? (Firefox button->Troubleshooting Information, and there's a button in the top right).

Well let's see. I'm not experiencing any hiccups on chrome yet I don't think. It's pretty noticeable right away on firefox. This is kinda strange. Maybe my firefox is out of date lol?

Hmm.. It is kinda recent it started happening. Like 2 or 3 weeks ago? I thought it was flash player but it is up to date. I have Java Platform SE 6 U35 disabled. I don't know what that even means

I'm betting it's flash player being retarded with firefox. That time frame sounds like when I started having some problems with firefox. Having flash up to date is unfortunately not always best. ~.~

Considering the rather dangerous vulnerabilities having an outdated version of flash tend to expose you to, I'd have to disagree.

Im having a similar sort of problem, I have Windows installed on to my SSD and after 5-20 minuets after booting up my PC will start to be really laggy even on the desktop and programs wont open or respond if they are on the C drive, but if i have a program open from my D drive, mumble for example, it will work perfectly fine even though i cant do anything on windows, i can still move my mouse around and things but i cant open up any windows or anything.

Help :S
